One of the smartest things Lego have done with their recent Fire & Police themes is to drag them out of the City and plonk them in the forest. Certainly where the ploce are concerned this has livened up a theme that on its last outing was looking tired and drab. Lego's designers struggled to do something different with the usual array of vehicles and playsets. The same was also true of the previous fire service outings, which just simply gave the previous 'beefed up' treatment the Police theme got to the Lego City Fire Service. So whilst there is some further creeping Americanisation of the theme, the shot in the arm such thinking has given this subset is very welcome indeed and this little ATV makes an excellent entry point.
These small little buggies have been part of the Fire theme since it launched in (whisper it) 1978, but this is perhaps the ultimate. As well as the smart little quad bike type vehicle, you get an excellent little mini-figure and some great tools for him to utilise. The best of which is the cleverly deisgned chainsaw, which is a brilliant bit of kit. The fireman also comes with some througholy modern respiritory equipment along with the usual axe and fire extinguisher. This little fella is really ready to get stuck into some heavy duty search and rescue! The minifigure is also superbly designed, with a nice high visibility overall with lumionus paint applications (although sadly, not light reflective as the real things are) and the little fella has some excellent characterisation with his rugged good looks and manly scar.
For the price point, it's a superb little set and the role play possibilities are endless. A fantastic little set!
