With a distinct lack of Vita specific reviews around for this newest release from Traveller's Tales in the Lego series. The game is obviously a follow up to the first Lego Batman game and let's start by saying it plays exactly like other Lego games I've played. If you've played Lego Star Wars, Harry Potter or Batman before then you'll know what to expect.

Despite some of the misleading write ups on sales websites (including Amazon), the game does not include an open world Gotham City as the full console versions do. The game is instead based on the PSP and DS build of the game. This heritage shows itself particularly in the cut scenes that play out in a startlingly low resolution that look truly horrendous on the Vita's beautiful OLED screen. This is a great shame as the comic story telling is truly a joy in the modern, hyper violent game world. The dynamic between Batman and Superman is consistently amusing with Robin's idolisation for The Man of Steel only adding to Batman's irritation. Whilst the resolution is incredibly poor they are still watchable and fun. One slightly jarring sign that the game is shoehorned together from other ideas is the fact that characters in these cut-scenes will at times be wearing costumes that not only were you not wearing at the end of the stage but that don't even exist in the Vita version of the game. It's this sort of shoddy work that makes the game seem a little like an insult to Vita gamers.

Instead of the open world the game is played out in continuous stages with a Bat Cave hub accessible at the end of each stage to create characters and enter game modes such as Justice League and Freeplay.

the Vita version is a NDS port and it's beyond rubbish.
you can search "lego batman 2 vita" on youtube, or go to IGN and check their review for the 3DS/vita version.

also all the CG cutscenes are extremely low resolution and pixelated, how lazy could a company be when they don't even bother to encode the CG cutscenes in high definition.

AVOID and wait for the price drop, it won't be long.

It's not a bad game as such, but given the Vita's quad-core CPU, GPU, 512Mb RAM and 128mb VRAM, this is a travesty.
Even the PSP would have barely broken into a sweat with this.

The cut scene quality is laughable - blurry, indistinct and washed out and the game play is restricted and hardly up to the same level as the first Batman game on the PSP.

Should have been the PS3 port.

Fun game but its just a Lazy 3DS port. The cut scenes look terible and the game looks ok but again its basicly the 3DS version. (the 3DS version actually looks better because of the 3d effect) Still fun though if you like lego games. If you want a game on the go then it might be worth your cash but i would wait for price a cut and if you have a PC, 360 or PS3 then get it for that system as they are far superior versions. Those versions are set in open world eviroment and i am sure if they really tried they could have done it on the vita. Desite all the negative points i raised if you enjoy handheld lego games you will like this one.

fun gameplay
funny story
lots of replay value (lots of characters to unlock)
voice acting for first time ever
great suits and puzzles

My decision to buy this was based on many other Lego games bought in the past and how enjoyable they have been to play, plus I wanted something light I could play on my new Vita.
Ultimately the game largely satisfies the fun aspect and is frustrating in many others.
The graphics when playing the game are great and look fantastic on the Vita screen. However, the cut scenes are horrendous and are DS standard. There are occasions where shadows appear in the wrong place or some elements fail to render quickly enough, but these don't detract from gameplay.
The levels are way too short and loading times are too long. The game will probably take most people around 4-6 hours to get to the end. There is the usual replay value in trying to obtain all of the extras.
There are plenty of laugh out loud moments and the voice acting is a welcome introduction in the Lego series.
Its been said elsewhere and I'll re-iterate because I share the view. Given the power of the Vita it should have been way closer to the full console version rather than what appears to be a cloned and shined version of the DS game. If the machine is capable then it should get the works and not a kind of half-hearted effort. To me another example of the lack of support for the Vita.

Right, after all the vitriol poured on this game , I thought I would submit a review on what the game is rather than what it isnt. No its not the open world version but that doesn't make it bad... It is actually great fun , the cut scenes are bad I admit but that does not impinge on the game (who reall pays attention to them things anyway??). The mechanics and graphics are solid and it has charm by the bucketload....real no nonsense honest fun, puzzles are easy but again you should enjoy it for what it is , it's not 'gritty" or trying to be realistic , it is just a fun game...
Well worth it in my opinion and a welcome change from the "edgy" rubbish that is being churned out at the moment
