I own a lot of LEGO sets, but normally limit myself to the Star Wars and City ranges. When I saw this set I knew I had to get it, and was not disappointed. As a display piece it is extremely impressive. At half a metre high to the top of the Jolly Roger flag, the ship stands even taller than you'd expect from the box art, and the rich red sails are beautiful. LEGO have done well in trying to capture the spirit of the movie ship with a plethora of bones, skulls, flames and other Gothic details. The minifigures stand out as some of the best that LEGO have produced, with an accurate representation of Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow and some lovely details such as tiny tattoos on the quartermaster zombie. The box contains 7 minifigures: Captain Jack Sparrow with a tricorne hat, Angelica, Blackbeard, a cook, and 3 zombie pirates (a quartermaster, gunner and yeoman). In addition to the LEGO itself the box includes a Pirates of the Caribbean poster and a Blackbeard collector's card with a code for downloading material from the LEGO website. The set is not quite perfect: the main body of the ship has no deck and although there is space for 8 cannons in the hull only 3 are included. After enquiring to the LEGO website I was told that lots of people had requested more cannons and at the time of writing this review it cost £10.16 for 5 extra cannons and their mounting pieces to be sent to a United Kingdom address. Also, the sails are made of a lightweight, papery fabric that may tear in the hands of younger LEGO builders. To summarise:

This is a great lego ship which I acquired for me and my son from amazon yes amazon I say this because I see a lot of people write reviews on products here on this website but they have purchased items elsewhere more much more money! Rather silly that I got this for £74.99 here and everywhere else it is being sold for £102.99 as usual I got it from amazon directly not third party sellers! Postage was free with Amazons great super saver! The ship itself is great you do get a lot for your money in lego terms in this case great mini figures and after sales service from amazon and lego itself is the best! Now some people have said it comes with only 3 cannons but this is only because lego have tried to stay true to the film ! Mind you I guess they could have included the other spare cannons in the package too! I have ordered the imperial flag ship too which is even bigger. now that was more on amazon but only because it is a lego exclusive model and third party sellers are selling it on here after buying it from lego for less! So if you would like that only order that on lego website its a beautiful ship too

I bought this for my son's birthday and it was a huge hit! He's 12 and a capable lego builder, and he found this one fairly straightforward and very enjoyable to build, but as it's such a detailed set it took a good few hours to do. I was impressed by all the little details and the lovely sails. Sometimes lego sets can seem a little disappointing when you've spent a lot of money on them, but this one doesn't disappoint at all. My son & his sister have been playing with this together since it was completed and have been getting a lot out of it, with their imaginations running riot! It seems pretty sturdy too, and there haven't been any breakages which can happen with some sets which can be upsetting for the kids when it keeps falling apart! I think this might actually appeal to adults as much as children as it looks great on display. Excellent!
