Ohh, it's been a very long time since I had a Technic set. Long gone are the studded beams of my youth, and in their place are these nice, streamlined smooth beams. It's an interesting development, as not only does it add realism to the kits, but it also means you have a more involved building process for certain parts of the set. Even though this is a tiny set, it's still a pleasingly challenging build introducing hands perhaps more attuned to the City and Creator themes to new ways of construction. As with Technic, the focus is on realistic construction, there's a nice almost 'riveting' of various panels to each other to create the finished model.
As one of the entry level Technic sets, this one doesn't have much in the way of moving parts. The mechanism allows you to pick up the skip and haul it onto the back of the truck. It's a clever little mechanism, and makes a change from the usual steering mechanisms that you'd normally get in sets of this size.
You also get building instructions for a secondary model - an equally great tow truck. The number of pieces involved and imaginative assembly for both models act as both education and inspiration as to the true possibilities of what can be achieved with Lego. Whilst this might sound like an obvious thing to say, I don't think Technic sets from the twentieth century felt like such a break from other Lego themes. For a set that's well under £10, its an impressive feat.
Only the baffling number of instruction booklets remain something of a puzzlement - three seems a bit excessive!

I am now 35 and even as a kid I always wanted some Lego Technic, my kids bought me this for my birthday and I have to say I really enjoyed the building process, It really is amazing how they set about the design process for these models. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanted a great little starter kit for themselves or their kids. Fantastic..!!!

This is a top toy. This was my son's first technic lego kit and although he found it a little tricky in places he persisted, he is 8 and managed to complete this on this own. Kit can make two different configurations.
