I was delighted to receive the Mindstorms NXT 2.0 kit for Christmas - even in my forties, I love Lego, and a grown-up version is great! I also was given a book of models to build, but a quick examination revealed that these were for the earlier version 1.0 kit, which has a substantially different inventory of parts, such that I couldn't actually build *any* of the models in the 1.0 book with the 2.0 kit. So I started to look around for a suitable source of the missing parts.
This kit isn't perfect for this purpose, but it's very close. This adds nearly all the parts that are required to build NXT 1.0 models with a 2.0 kit. For anyone else wanting to do this, the remaining missing pieces are:
- one Mindstorms sound sensor
- one 15-hole straight liftarm
- three 24-tooth gears
- two 56x26 balloon tyres
- one turntable assembly
- two 5.2cm coloured balls
Most of those are easy enough to track down on eBay or Bricklink, and having this kit to fill in most of the gaps makes this process a lot easier. The kit contains 800 or so pieces - a massive selection of Technics parts (gears, axles, bricks, wheels, pins) and is packed in a strong plastic storage case with two compartmented trays to help organise the parts - much better than the packaging Lego use for the non-education kits. If you've got a Mindstorms kit, this will hugely increase the range of models you can make, and is well worth getting.
