Received this today and started watching Disc 1. It is immediately clear that the 'Talking Heads' in this DVD are very poor. 'Music journalists' (who very rarely know anything about music) talking nonsense and exposing their lack of actual musical knowledge.. Example, early on a 'music jornalist' describes 'Waterloo' as Abba revamping 'Puppet on a String' by Sandie Shaw.. The fact that 'Waterloo; is totally different structurally and musically totally different passes this guy by ! Other talking heads are 'musicians' I have never heard of and 'Record Producers' . One of them describes 'SOS' as having 'normal simple chord structure' , in fact it is far from normal, it is in D Minor and has an extraordinary change to a major progression. In fact 'SOS' was recognised by people such as Pete Townsend, Paul Gambicinni and many others as being, musically, extremely clever and interesting. Even John Lennon noticed, describing it as his favourite Abba song. A female Australian singer totally fails to grasp the meaning of the lyrics and the sadness in Agnetha's voice on 'SOS'. I shall refrain from going on but I am sure you get the general idea. I shall watch the rest of it, but Disc 1 does not auger well for the what is to come in this set. For a much better, analysis of Abba's music, I suggest purchasing 'The Joy of Abba' which does have experienced people talking about the music, you will learn much more from that documentary. So yes, it is an 'independent critcal review' but reviewed by people with insufficient knowledge about the music, which is why they spend a lot of time talking about the 'look'. No doubt there will be enough interviews with the members of Abba to make this worthwhile, but it is severely let down by the poor quality of the reviewers.
