Product Description

Review

"The fantastical elements are well integrated with the natural history and the result is a convincing and suspenseful fantasy… A compulsive read." School Librarian

“With all the right elements – a hero that's destined for greatness and the struggle between light and darkness – Lasky's Guardians debut is a high-flying hoot. Soren's tale is suspenseful and riveting, and by the book's end, readers will even be impressed with how much they've learned about owls. Reminiscent of Brian Jacques's Redwall and Robin Jarvis's Deptford Mice, The Capture is bound to catch fantasy fans in its talons.” Barnes and Noble Reviews

“The story's fast pace, menacing bad guys, and flashes of humor make this a good choice for reluctant readers, while the underlying message about the power of legends provides a unifying element and gives strong appeal for fantasy fans.” School Library Journal

About the Author

Kathryn Lasky has long had a fascination with owls. This led her to research their life and behaviour, thinking that she would write a non-fiction book about owls to be illustrated with her husband’s photographs. She soon realised, though, that this would be rather difficult since owls are shy and nocturnal creatures – so she wrote a fantasy series about them instead.

With the recent release of the film Legend Of The Guardians, the original book by Kathryn Lasky would have to be released sooner or later. Now it's here, and I can safely say to you that, for the most part, it's a cracking good read. But I do have just one problem with this release: it doesn't cover the entire storyline of the film. The film was made based on the first three books in Lasky's Guardians of Ga'Hoole series. I bought this edition believing it would be an omnibus containing all three stories in one, but what we end up with here is just the first one, The Capture. But you won't see any indication of this on the cover unless you check the spine or read the inner title page. This doesn't necessarily ruin the story itself - I have loved what I've read from the 250 pages on offer here. But I feel it would have made much more sense to release all three stories together, whether it be as an omnibus or as separate volumes. At present I am keeping my fingers crossed that either option comes soon. Anyone else expecting to read the complete story will sadly be dissapointed by this release, but those who can get over this will enjoy it nonetheless

Such a wonderful story from book 1 to book 3. Easy read so suits all people of all ages. Great characters each with there own little story of how they became such a brave band. Looking forward to the rest of the series now.
