I purchased this to assist with my work on aircraft. It hasn't disappointed ! While at close quarters the tight spot focus is overpowering, a quick slide of the head will produce a lovely all encompassing flood light. This is very useful when working in a small confined area. It's this functionality that sells the torch for me and the fact that it will happily accept cheap and plentiful AA alkaline batteries.
The inclusion of AA batteries might lead one to draw the conclusion that this is a small torch that will tuck inside a pocket - It isn't. While it hangs nicely off a belt with the included holster (nice quality !) and tucks inside a baggy overall pocket ok,it is too big to realistically place in a trouser or breast pocket. Punters after that sort of portability might do well to consider the P7.
The torch looks and feels good and the machining quality looks 1st class. I'm very impressed !
An improvement I would like to see would be a redesign of the body to stop the torch rolling when placed on a flat surface. I suspect that Lenser chose style over fuction in this respect. It would be nice to see a smart looking anti roll sleeve that could slip over the head to overcome that problem , but it's a minor point.
Note - The torch I ordered (not from amazon) details the lumens on the gift box label as being 200 with a beam range of 300m and burning life of 150 hours. These figures are different to the led lenser site and spec listed by Amazon. I am wondering if there are slightly different versions of this torch ?

UPDATE OCTOBER 2011 - Torch is used several times a week and has been dropped more than a few times in the past 2.5 years - but still works perfectly. The only issue I had a few months ago was that the LED was flickering. This was traced to the gold plated track inside the torch - the one that the spring loaded contacts of the battery pack make contact with. It was looking slightly tarnished. I used a glass-fibre pen to polish it up and all was perfect again!

You certainly get what you pay for with this torch - the build quality is exemplary - a beautiful piece of quality engineering so rarely seen these days. It may be expensive but compared to your average torch this is in another league.
I needed a bright torch with a long battery life and this is perfect. One word of caution - I bought the bubble pack with the "test" facility that shines the light into a mirror and straight into your eyes - lets say the brightness came as quite a shock!
The pack I got had 2 sets of batteries and a case. If looked after this torch should last a long time i.e. gold plated contacts etc. - It'll be interesting to see how long the LED lasts - it's certainly the brightest LED I've ever seen - only 3W but appears to be brighter than your average million candle type torch - and the batteries last 30 times longer.

hi all
i purchased the led lenser p14 recently and what a superb piece of kit it is the main spot beam illuminates wherever you point it and the distance is well breath taking is the only word for it,the flood beam is also superb illuminating a very wide close area, i have gone through all the top makes of torches and headlamps as i am a fisherman and the led lenser in both torch and headlamp form absolutely leaves all others in the shade

Compact and bright
