Who Do You Think You Are? Times are changing fast. Traditional working practices and the concept of a conventional job are increasingly becoming things of the past as we make sense of a new marketplace where the only limit to success is our own imagination. What Does it take to Survive in This New Scrambled Up World of Work? ∗ Attitude – to get started ∗ Enterprise – to succeed ∗ Success – at maximising opportunities ∗ Worklife – in the right balance The challenges – and the opportunities – for the ′entrepreneur–within′ the huge. For micro–businesses, home–workers, freelancers, it′s all for the taking. That is the essence of LEAP! A stimulus for taking the plunge to go it alone and set yourself free... and for making it up as you go along! "Ian Sanders connects brilliantly wit the mindset and needs of talented professionals in their migration away from corporate mediocrity. LEAP! is a personal guidebook to both the practicality and emotion of making work matter." – Chris Nel, Partner, Tom Peters Company

From the Author

I wrote `Leap!' as both an inspiration and a guide to help people who are considering quitting their jobs to work for themselves. More and more people are deciding to take control of their working lives by going it alone to do their own thing. I've had fantastic feedback from readers from Seattle to Sydney who have told me how valuable the book was in helping them make the decision. It's a big deal to quit the security and stability of a full time job to set up your own business but the rewards are plentiful: being in control of your own destiny, creating something from nothing as you take your idea to reality. The book's full of advice and inspiration from my ten years experience of working for myself, packaged in an accessible read to ensure you make the most of your big leap. This is not a book full of accountancy and legal advice. It's about capturing the essence of what it takes to be a success running your own business; about having the right mindset and attitude to be enterprising, to have fun and to be a success.

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful guide from someone who's done it 16 Jan 2008
Format:Paperback
Written in engaging style by a guy who's made "the leap" himself, this book gives you an insider's view of what it's like to actually go it alone.

Its honesty is refreshing and, as a reader who's made a similar journey myself, I feel the book manages to address many of the issues that I faced when considering my own future: whether to stay as a full-time employee or go solo. Of course, it also discusses other issues that weren't relevant to me when I made the leap, but which might be to someone else in that position.

I believe the book's useful to anyone already going it alone too - it works as a good reminder of the reasons for jumping in the first place. And with so many ideas inside about how to go about winning new business, or bringing a new perspective to your work etc, it's also reminded me how to handle (and get out of) those inevitable periods when a crisis of confidence or a slow-down in sales take place.

As the Intro to the book says, it's not a formalised guide to setting up a business with info on bank accounts, tax details and so on. It's more interesting than that! It's an easy-going and readable discussion about changing your life and making sure you make the most of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars LEAP review 17 Jan 2008
Format:Paperback
Ian has written a book to help you take the plunge into schedule D territory and survive the transition unscathed. The book is packed with good advice and he achieves this really thanks to two essential ingredients: plenty of dirty-handed experience and an undaunted sense of humour! Well done Sir.
