"Scotland's very own Michael Crichton"-- Aberdeen Express

Product Description

Ex-Special Forces medic, Dr Steven Dunbar of the Sci-Med Inspectorate investigates an apparent attack by animal rights activists on a research institute in rural Norfolk. The director of the institute has been murdered after having been horrendously tortured and several experimental monkeys have been released into the wild. While police interest centres on the murder, Sci-Med's concern is focused on what the escaped animals might be infected with.

Steven is assured that it was only 'flu virus but why has the army been called in to hunt down and kill the freed animals – wearing full biohazard gear?

This title was first published by Allison & Busby Ltd. in the UK in 2007. It is the sixth Dr Steven Dunbar novel.

Ken McClure is the internationally bestselling author of over twenty medical thrillers such as Eye of the Raven, The Gulf Conspiracy, White Death and Dust to Dust. 5.0 out of 5 stars Ken's done it again !!!!!! 28 July 2007
Format:Paperback
Ken's done it again, he has written another BLOCKBUSTER of a book, that is very topical and very believable. Again Ken has mixed some current scientific facts with a pinch of imagination and come up with a great story that is gripping and fast moving. I highly recommend this book, and had recommended it to a good friend who works in the business of manufacturing bird flu vaccines, and he is now backtracking on Dr Dunbar's career so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK for holiday reading 16 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I found this ok for light holiday reading (despite the subject!). Liked the pace of it. It kept my interest and seemed a tidy, concise story with a good twist. It was my 1st Steven Dunbar novel but that didn't really matter as I felt I got a good handle on the characters without reading any of the previous ones.
I feel now I would like to read other novels in the series now. The only thing I would say is that I felt the ending was too abrupt (similar to the Da Vinci Code) but having said that I still enjoyed it and it wouldn't put me off another book by the same author.

5.0 out of 5 stars very enjoyable thriller 19 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The novel begins with a raid on a research facility during which a leading biochemist is murdered and lab-animals released. Investigator Dr Steven Dunbar is called in and although his investigations initially reveal that the murdered scientist's work was simply related to production of flu vaccine, something just doesn't 'sit right' with Dunbar....

I found this a very enjoyable medical-politics thriller. It was pleasingly pacey and refreshingly allowed the reader to solve the mystery as the plot unfolded. I also found it very witty in places and enjoyed McClures digs at 'government organisation speak'.

Once again Ken McClure delivers the goods with this well paced medical/terrorist yarn.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
I quite enjoyed this book despite a tendency toward wooden and stilted writing. The plot ticked along nicely and there was a reasonable sense of tension throughout. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars flawed but ok
I agree with those who found this book a little disappointing. It had a believable premise but the characters were a bit wooden, and the twists were pretty obvious. Read more
