Product Description

Review

"We quickly found that the author's instructions were clear and his routes excellent. Fuerteventura wasn't the moon with beaches but an island of beautiful valleys, stunning mountain passes and hidden chapels. We came to regard Noel Rochford, childishly but fondly, as Know-all, the old-fashioned and decent schoolteacher ever by our side. Indeed, it is no exaggeration to say that we grew to love him." (Ruth Picardy, in The Independent)" --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Product Description

Fuerteventura is different from all the other islands in the Canaries. Being the closest to Africa, there's a definite taste of the Sahara about it. The countryside is lonely but warm, bleak but friendly and, in its own way, beautiful. Beaches are what Fuerteventura is all about; mile upon mile of untouched golden sand, great billowing white sand dunes, foaming surf, and quiet turquoise coves. Even though the landscape changes little, it's pleasant to tour Fuerteventura by car, since there's little traffic. This updated third edition is an ideal introduction to the island. There are also walks to suit all appetites - rambles across the hills, fairly easy mountain ascents, a seaside hike and, for explorers, rocky barrancos with hidden streams and palm groves. It includes a day-trip to nearby Lanzarote. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Very good guide 11 April 2009
By K. Foad
Format:Paperback
We used this book for our recent trip to Fuerteventura, and found it very informative - tho, being a small guide and mainly for walking trips don't expect great detail, history etc.etc. that you may get in city guides.
However, for walks and driving tours, it was extremely useful, giving good detailed instructions and some small background details - and locations of petrol stations!
We also used it for a trip to Lanzarote in the car, which worked out very well indeed, taking us to a great many sights and places of interest we may not have found on our own.
This book had been recommended by users on the Fuerteventura forum website, and I can see why. A nice little guide to seeing the sights by car or by foot.

Based in Corralejo for the week, did 5 walks all convenient from town/using public buses and in case of excellent lobos island walk 1, local boat.
Walk 2 el Cotillo - only so-so as road now macadamed
Walk 3 Lajares - brilliant
walk 4 el cotillo - pleasant
walk 5 hard going up with no path but v good
walk 6 strenuous but well worth it.
Walks all thus very accessible and relatively easy to follow.
A quality (and very cheap) week's walking.

We used this guide for a week's walking in the sun at Christmas. As we have come to expect with Sunflower guides, the walks were good as were the directions on where to park, how to find the start of the walk etc.

Having mentioned to a couple of friends that I'd spent a week on Fuerteventura, they were very surprised that there was any good walking to be had. There certainly is and with this book you will enjoy it.
