After reading the entire Vampire Huntress series I didn't want it to end, I didn't want to let go of the characters and of the storyline and this beautiful comic collection helped that!
I originally purchased each of the stories included as individuals, but to have them in one collective book is just amazing! I highly recommend this to any L.A.Banks fan or anyone who is a fan of comic books!

Ok, but... 25 Jun. 2011

It was pretty decent as far as a comic goes, but I was expecting another novel. So, my review is probably a little biased. The artwork was ok, however most characters didn't match previous descriptions or even the artwork used in the last book. The characters appeared generic and even Carlos looked a mess. I've read every book several times and own the whole series so I wasn't completely lost. I would have liked a better storyline with better graphics, and if I'd seen this in the store I can't say I would have purchased it. My advice is to go to a local bookstore before deciding to purchase this.

Didn't Enthuse Me... 18 Jun. 2011

I enjoy vampire novels, and reading comics, so finding these two together is always a plus. I purchased LA Bank's Vampire Huntress because it seemed a popular title, but I confess I didn't like it! First, I found the storyline somewhat obscure. There is this large group of characters in some sort of resistance, tons of talking and mystic stuff happening. Too many people! Too much left unexplained. It feels like I've been dropped right into the middle of a TV episode and I have no clue what is going on. I also didn't care. None of the characters were remotely likeable. They just seem like generic people in pre-established relationships with some sort of pre-established battle going on.

The dialog is also a bit... Awkward to read. Sometimes I had to read twice to understand what the characters are saying. Every panel especially in the beginning is packed with background characters, who don't add anything to the story. The dialog references situations and events that I don't understand or haven't heard about before.

The artwork is very uneven, and switches from an exaggerated Rob Liefield Style to worse, to a rather decent penciling job towards the end. Some artists have difficulty drawing African American and mixed race characters with cornrows, instead making them all have dreads which just seems odd. I prefer the same pencils throughout a story for consistency's sake.

I guess if you've read the series, and are a fan of these characters, you'll probably like to see the graphic novelization. For me, I just didn't like it.

Dawn And Darkness 14 Jan. 2013

I haven't read this book yet, but I thought that it was a paperback like the others, not a comic book. The article said paperback,it is not paperback, it is a comicbook. I am not happy about being deceived and will try to remember which company that I purchased it from and will think twice before purchasing from them again. I have always loved scifi and was curious when I found out that a black woman wrote this series. After reading the first book, I had to read them all. There were times that I would be up all night because I couldn't put the book down. I would read on my breaks at work and got mad if I finished that book and didn't have the next volume with me to continue. I finally purchased all the series and will hopefully get the comics as well. I will keep them as one of my favorite collections. In my opinion, she is one of the greatest writers of all time. Her writing is as great as writers such as Laurell Hamilton,Stephen King, Dean Koontz,JR Ward,Anne Rice,Laura Adrian, etc.I have read books by them all. I am sadden that her books didn't get the publicity as these other great writers did. Had I known of her existance, I would have enjoyed her books sooner. I have never seen her books offered in book clubs. I want to thank Essence for bringing her into my life.
Love, love, love this series! 28 Aug. 2013

Format: Paperback
Open the pages and follow the trials and tribulations of the love that transcends all between Damali and Carlos as they fight evil, deal with temptations and embrace that connection, that "thing" between them that cannot be broken. While all of this happens get to know all things paranormal, and just how evil vampires are and their hierarchy of all things bad. A page turner to see how this band of unlikely heroes have to come together from different cultures, religions to win this epic battle of good versus evil. Exciting from beginning to end!

I was expecting another awesome novel and when I received the book I thought I ordered the wrong one. I read it in 20 minutes and didnt think it was good . I expected a story, the graphics were good but the story just wasnt there. Now if it continues it will be another "Comic" . I will not purchase. It is not worth the money I spent.
