Good God! This album is truly amazing! Possibly the greatest album in my collection. It is this because it is so different to other nu-metal, which is completely bland and monotonous. This album has so many subtle undertones and is both a musical and lyrical triumph. Every genre seems to have an allstar band of simply fantastic musicians. First there were The Who and Cream, and examples around today include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Tool and, of course, MuDvAyNe. This album boasts fantastic singing with sudden changes from defeaning screams to soft singing (see the beginning of Cradle and in Prod), awesome guitar playing (the opening of Know Forever), superb bass playing (the whole way through - Ryknow comes amazingly close to Flea in skill!) and truly amazing drumming possibly not seen since the time of The Who. So, this album simply oozes fantastic songwriting and musicianship, but surprisingly for a nu-metal band, the lyrics are genius - see Internal Primates Forever, Cradle and Nothing to Gein. In my opinion the best songs are Cradle (about Kud being abused as a child), Nothing to Gein (about the serial killer Ed Gein) and Prod (about the human race's worrying downward spiral in morals and the like). There are many other wonderful songs such as Death Blooms, -1 and Severed but these tracks stand out. If you like this album I really suggest that you see this band live as they are fantastic - shown by their performance at Ozzfest UK. If you dont like this album then no-one can save you.

Impressive... 9 Sep 2001
Format:Audio CD
If you do not normally listen to nu-metal or any music of that noisy, shouty ilk because you find it brainless and unstimulating then mudvayne will be a real breath of fresh air. Offering a unique jekyll+hyde vocal style with quiet and haunting vocals in the versesm, intercut with some crazy riffs and deep throaty shouting from the frontman. This gives a paranoid almost schizophrenic feel to the whole record. as a side note mudvayne seem to be the only band in their genre to actually claim to have any artistic merit at all, citing Stanley Kubrick as a major inspiration for this record. This album also has the cleverest name I have seen...

Jumpin' jack flash! 3 Nov 2002
Format:Audio CD
bejesus! This is one of the most angry/mellow/beautiful/ugly/inyourface/subtle albums i own. The experience of listening to this cd comes close to being schizophrenic and listening to the red hot chilis on acid! if you love metal you will love this album, if you hate metal you will love this album, there is so much in this album that is is hard to pinpoint mudvaynes sound. Alomost progressive in style with kud searingly smooth vocals suddenly changing to heartstopping screams, you never quite know whether he is laughing or crying. The chunky trashing of guitar fits in perfectly with the pysched up blues style of the bass lines. complete with amazing drumming, this is a uniquely brilliant sound. with the single dig being (in my opinion) not nearly one of the strongest tracks on the album- the real jewels come from 1,nothing to gein, death blooms, internal primates forever and pharmaecopia (not neccesarily in that order). The only negetive comment is that they are possibly slightly pretentious in the interludes (either that or it is the ramblings of a genius-you decide). "life, submissiveness, hypnotising the ignorant" i may not (i hope) be ignorant but mudvayne certainly hypnotised me!
