One of the best and most realistic films ever made about policing, and drugs. Bears watching again and again. Not simple, doesn't spoonfeed, and, as it says on the cover, never pulls it's punches. if you like tv shows such as the wire and realistic, social dramas, this will be a real find. tough, gritty, realistic. was unavailable for years so buy it now and keep it in the loop

This film portrays the life of a cop who works in the drug squad in paris. The story revolves around the his relationships with the Junkies he busts and especially, the relationship with one of the girls who has aids. the story paints a bleak picture of paris in the nineties with the portakabin office of the police officers, their daily existence, the futility of their attempts in trying to curb hard drug use in the african quarters of paris all amalgamate to create an incredibly realistic and immersive drama. Definitely one for the french connection lovers out there.

I saw this film about four years ago and Its still fresh in my mind.

GOOD OF ITS KIND 3 Jan 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having just seen this film, made in 1992, I have to admit I came a little late to the show - and it shows!
This is a very good film in its genre, but being nearly 20 years old, inevitably means that it is no longer breaking new ground. This is a pity, because it is no fault of its director/writer Bertrand Tavernier, who managed to get all the grittiness he wanted into the low level street life which constitutes the druggie world in Paris. The police are presented with all the hellish indifference to which we have by now become accustomed, and their wild eccentricities, while excellently captured in this film, have all been seen before. What is definitely lacking is a real story which unifies the whole thing, but as is so often the case with French films, a simple "slice of life" is the preferred idiom. Hence the all too common practice in France of stopping the film at the end instead of finishing the story. Both systems are legit - bit I still prefer a story to end than a film to suddenly stop.
That being said, this is a perfctly good "slice of life - drug style" as it was, and no doubt still is in Paris, and for all of you who appreciate French cinema in its rawest moments this is a very good addition to the canon. Chaq'un a son goût!
