The main benefit with this item is the hassle free way it cooks rice, it looks good and its non spill lid that flips over to become a drainer is clever. Another clever design by Lekue.

Great rice cooker - read the instructions for success!! 30 May 2013
By Sandra P. Dupleich - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased this rice cooker from a local retailer and tried it out for the first time with brown rice. I was so excited to be able to make brown rice in 20 minutes!! Sadly, my first batch of rice was a hard, crunchy, inedible mess.

What I realized is that the instructions on the product are for an 800 watt microwave and my home microwave is 1000 watts. I also found that for most rices that are not plain long-grain rice, you do need to add more water than they recommend. By setting my microwave to 80% power and adding about 1/4 cup more water than recommended on the product instructions, I was able to make fluffy, delicious wild rice last night in just about 25 minutes.

skip this 8 May 2013
By Susan - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased this thinking it would be great to make cooking rice quicker. I followed the not-very-good instructions that came in the package - set my timer for 19 minutes to make 1/4 cup of brown rice and when I checked on the microwave at minute 14, the bottom of the rice cooker had melted and was sticking to the inside of my microwave. 40 minutes later with most of it cleaned up, I was cranky. I returned the cooker and the staff said they love this and had used it very successfully at the store. So I got another one and tried again. This time, in an abundance of caution, I set my microwave to 60% power. I added the right amount of water and set the timer to 8 minutes. When I checked, all the water was gone, so I added another cup and set the microwave again for another 5 minutes - when I checked again, all the water was gone again and the rice was still way too al dente. I ate it anyway.
Tonight I tried again - I used 60% power - I checked after 9 minutes - this time it was soupy so I set the timer for another 5 minutes. This time the water was all gone, but again, very al dente rice.
Not sure if I am going to keep this or ditch it. Much easier to cook on the stove and not worry about burning my house down.
Boo!

Watch the microwave power 25 Jun 2013

I had a similar problem and melted the base in the microwave. The base of the cooker is not as temperature forgiving as the cover and other Lekue products. Here is a set of charts that you will need to convert to the 800 watts specified in the limitted cookbook. These charts should be included in the cookbook: http://www.microwavecookingforone.com/Charts/

Don't waste your money 20 Oct 2013

Have used this item repeatedly to make oatmeal. The limited instructions have to be adjusted for microwave wattage, amount and time so you just never know what you are going to get. End result is the cooker overflows EVERY time, which is the reason I bought it.....it isn't supposed to overflow. I'll go back to my pan and stove.

Works well - if you pay attention to your microwave wattage 28 Oct 2013
By Robin R - Published on Amazon.com

I first saw this product at a fancy brick & mortar store. It's a little expensive so I wanted to read reviews on Amazon before buying it. I've changed my diet to include lots of whole grains and my stovetop is a mess from things like rice and steel cut oats boiling over, so this seemed like a good product for me.

I'm glad I read the reviews and knew I had to pay attention to the wattage of my microwave (1100) since the recipes are geared toward 800 watts. So I know at first I'll have to tweak each recipe, and write it down.

Last night I made a brown rice mixture; took 20 minutes and more water. Turned out nice though!

And today I made steel cut oats; took a total of 10 minutes at 80% power, 1 cup oats:2 cups water. After its resting time of 6 minutes, I had a container of nicely-cooked oats.

Try it! Just be aware at first you'll have to be patient and figure out what works for your individual microwave. But no more having to scrub starchy messes off the stove, hurray!
