It is a sage and satisfying text. ... The book is beautifully designed. --Blueprint

Product Description

This is a monograph on the work of American designer Kyle Cooper, one of the most significant creators of film titles since Saul Bass. His extraordinary title sequence for David Fincher's horror-thriller "Seven" (1995) is credited by many with bringing about a renaissance in innovative title design. Cooper is one of the founders of the Los Angeles-based company Imaginary Forces and has produced a succession of titles for such films as "True Lies", "The Island of Dr Moreau", "Twister", "Mimic", "Donnie Brasco", "Reindeer Games", "Spider-Man" and "Arlington Road".

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book, nice images but missing a DVD, 2 Jan 2009
By Kevin Gilmour (Glasgow, Scotland) - See all my reviews
The title of my review pretty much covers it, this book is well made, nicely laid out and has some great still shots from Cooper's work but is missing a DVD. The first 20 pages is a biography/review of Cooper's career and influences with quotes from the man himself. I found this a good read, if a little short.

After this it is a selection of images from various title sequences Cooper directed. The stills are great quality and there even some storyboard and sketches but there is very little investigation into the projects. This was something I was hoping for in a book dedicated to one man's work and I was a little disappointed there isn't much text on how the projects were created or specific quotes from Cooper and the others involved.

I have Motion By Design - also published by Laurence King - and that contains many of the Cooper projects feature here but the pictures are larger and clearer. Both books are similar in layout and tone however.

I was hoping for a book that I could learn from, this is not that kind of book. It is another nice book that is great to have round when you are looking for inspiration though.
