This book is truly terrible, and a waste of money. Here's why:
STANDARD NOTATION: Not bad on the single notes. Wildly inaccurate on the chords. Really! Hardly any of the chord solos are close to being right, and most of them are virtually unplayable as a result. Seeing as Kurt Rosenwinkel plays a lot of chords in these solos, this is a major problem. In general, there are many incorrect rhythms throughout. Then there is the ridiculous mistake in Pannonica where beat one isn't in the right place.
TABLATURE: Who edited this? So I've established that you should just give up on the chord passages anyway, but in 75% of the book, the tablature for the single-note passages is totally counter-intuitive. Out of all the possible ways to play a line, this book often gives you the most unlikely one. Licks that should fit easily under the fingers are rendered here with awkward fingerings and unnecessary jumps around the fretboard.
Mel Bay books have always been a bit inconsistent; some of their books are excellent, some are very bad. This is a bad one. I wonder if the transcriber was just incompetent, or if he wrote this a day before deadline with a whiskey induced hangover. No thanks to the editor for letting this pass. Everyone would be better served trying to transcribe this on their own - much better for the ears anyway.
