Product Description

The first complete and fully illustrated guide to Kundalini available!

Kundalini comes from the Indian word kundal, which means "lock of hair from the beloved." The uncoiling of this "hair" is the awakening of the kundalini, the creative potential that already exists in every human. The yoga in this book is a sampling of the vast wealth called Kundalini Yoga. Here you learn about the branch of yoga based on the teachings of Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D., who brought Kundalini Yoga from India to the West in 1969. Master yoga teacher and author Shakta Kaur Khalsa demonstrates how Kundalini Yoga works for everyday life and every person. You are not required to be in perfect physical shape or share any particular belief system. Kundalini Yoga works for you if you can breathe and move your body! In this type of yoga, the most important thing is experience. Your experience goes right to your heart, your core. These ancient teachings are designed to give you a hands-on approach to experiencing your deepest emotions and highest consciousness. By approaching Kundalini Yoga with openness and respect, and by following the steps included in this book, you can change and enrich your life.

This book is ideal for those who are new to Kundalini Yoga. It contains superb photographs, showing clear images of the poses. The book is well organised and has easy to find sections relating to certain yoga positions and routines, for example, poses for energy balance etc. It also contains vital information on meditation, hand positions, facial expression and a healthy diet, which are all essential for the serious yoga practitioner. This book also has information on the eight chakras, which are the core of Kundalini Yoga teachings (If you're interested in the eight chakras I would also recommend Eight Human Talents, by Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa).

Don't hesitate, this is a great book, buy it now!

Try it! 26 April 2004

Having been suckered by books that promise the earth I was highlysceptical when my partner ordered this one. He has a chronic paincondition and I am stressed out teacher so I didn't think that meditationwould be particularly easy. However I was pleasantly surprised to discoverthat doing the yoga led easily into a deep meditation which I had neverbeen able to achieve before.Even more surprising is how quickly I was ableto build up to most of the yoga positions(although some may elude me forsome time yet!)This has to be an all-round exercise. It seems to tonemuscles quickly and certainly improves flexibility. It has helped mypartner control the worst of his pain. Although not a miracle cure I wouldrecommend anyone to try it as it has improved the quality of both ourlives in the short time we have been following it. There are specific yogasets for different effects. Meditations are designed for all levels. Thereis even a meditation to help break bad habits. If it helps me give upsmoking without turning into the Incredible Hulk's baby sister I'll letyou know! The photos are quite easy to follow and instructionsclear.Alternative build up exercises are in place for those of us whocannot yet wrap their legs round their heads so there is no excuse! Tryit!

After some years of hatha yoga, I've recently started training to be a Kundlini Yoga Teacher. I find this book an incredible help. Firstly kriyas or exercises: these are grouped together to work on a particular goal. For example, Nabhi Kriya is a set of exercises to work mainly on the abdomen. Another set are designed to improve functioning of the liver, another for healthy mental balance, another to relieve anger and so on. It gives guidance with meditations and a healthy diet. I find it an excellent, clear and very comprehensive guide to kundalini yoga.
