I bought this to jazz my salads up for the summer (I think we're gonna have a scorcher!) and slicing potatoes for Douphinoise rather than dig a machine out to do the job. Using this mandoline is a breeze. It's as light as you like, washes easily enough and takes little storage up. I love the red colour too! It's only 11 inches long x 4 inches wide. Comes with a blade guard for storage and finger guard to grip the food whilst using so we don't slice our fingertips off! (see pic uploads)
The blade is double edged so you can slice twice using a push/pull action. The blade is very very sharp and gives a thin cut which is not adjustable on this mandoline. You can use this to slice cucumber, carrots, celery, courgettes and to shred cabbage, cheese and chocolate! You can also slice food not beginning with the letter 'C' like lemons, limes, kiwi, onions, apples and pears and of course potatoes! I've had a tad of trouble with tomatoes to be honest unless they are quite firm but I personally use a proper tomato knife.
It has rubber nonslip feet and notches on the underside for bowl/pan rims to keep it securely in place whether used on counters or straight into the cooking pot. The handle has a good grip to it when holding, which is soft non slip rubber.
When in use always make the runway slick by adding a few splashes of water especially if slicing starchy foods as it can become sticky after a while! Stand right infront of it and point it away from you for better control, use even pressure and please use the handguard at all times, this thing is very sharp indeed!
