Rahul Khanna (Shahrukh Khan) and Anjali Sharma (Kajol) are best friends in St. Xavier's college. They both love playing basketball - whenever they play, Anjali wins. Rahul constantly chases the girls in college, which annoys Anjali. This is because, unknown to either of them, Anjali is in love with Rahul. Mr. Malhotra (Anupam Kher) tells Anjali that his daughter Tina (Rani Mukherji) is coming to St. Xavier's to finish her degree, having studied in Oxford University for her first two years. Tina arrives and quickly becomes friends with Rahul and Anjali. In fact, Rahul obviously has feelings for Tina. In class one day, Rahul says he believes love is friendship and that he will only ever love a girl who is his best friend. These words make Anjali realise that she is in love with Rahul and that possibly he loves her too. Anjali is encouraged by her motherly housekeeper Rifat Bi (Himani Shivpuri) to tell Rahul she loves him. She is about to do so, but finds out that he loves Tina. She is now heartbroken and decides to leave college without telling Rahul or Tina. Rahul and Tina find her just as she is about to leave - Rahul and Anjali share a tearful goodbye, believing they will never meet again. Tina now realises that she came between two lovers: On this day, she realises that Anjali and Rahul are soulmates. Rahul marries Tina and, in a year of marriage, they give birth to a baby girl. Tina had complications in her pregnancy and has little time left so writes eight letters to her daughter - one for each of her first eight birthdays (so that her daughter will know all about her mother). Before dying, Tina asks Rahul to name their daughter Anjali in memory of Anjali Sharma. On her eighth birthday Anjali (Sana Saeed) reads the most important letter. She learns about Anjali Sharma and is given the mission of bringing back Rahul and Anjali. Anjali Sharma is now more feminine. She is engaged to Aman Mehra (Salman Khan).

5.0 out of 5 stars slow start, then wow! 7 Feb 2009
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was recommended to us by a friend, the cover does'nt do the film any favours, and after the first 15 minutes i thought we had bought a duff film, then wow! it grabbed us. i will write the description from the rear of the dvd as none is written on amazons page:
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a sweet tale of friendship and love. Rahul (shahrukh Khan) and Anjali (Kajol) are inseparable friends at college. unknown to Rahul Anjali is in love with him who inturn falls head over heels in love for a new student Tina (Rani Mukherji). when Anjali learns the truth, she is heart broken and leaves college. In the meantime Rahul and Tina get married.
Nine years have now passed and Rahul is a Single parent after Tinas death. What has become of Anjali? what is Rahuls daughter upto? Who is Aman? the plot unravels in a dramatic climax and alls well that ends well.
I can only say that this film is fabulous and well worth watching, it now ranks as one of our favourite of all films and its only our second " bollywood" film. The actors, after a slow start, engage you and you feel the whole journey, its normal for me to shead a tear at the end of a really good film, and im not ashamed to admit it! but its a first for me to shead them at many points during the film!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 21 April 2004
Format:DVD
This was my very first Bollywood movie and it is a great movie. It is bothfunny and sad, it will make you laugh and it will make you cry. For me, itbrings back so many memories of Secondary School, all those six years ago.It is a film that can be seen by the whole family, like most Hindi movies. There are no scenes where you need to cover your childs' eyes or anythinglike that. It is clean and pure, as love is. It is simply a must see filmand if you are a Bollywood fan, this must be added to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous 12 Jan 2004
By ebabz
I defy anyone to do anything but totally fall in love with this movie. Within the first few minutes I was crying then laughing and that pretty much sums up the whole film. It is impossible to watch the movie without feeling the love it exudes. As my first Hindi film it totally opened a whole new genre to me and I have not looked back since.

The simple story of the strength of 'first love' after years of seperation is embellished with song, dance and humour to make it the spectacular feel-good movie that it is. The two lead characters play with such a passion and an innocence that you cannot fail to fall for their charms. And as for the little girl - she breathes even more life into a film that is already shouting 'I'M ALIVE'. Yes, you have to expect cheese, multiple 'funky' costume changes and the most catchy theme tune on the planet but it will leave you feeling so good that you'll keep watching it over and over again. I cannot recommend this highly enough!!
