good quality item,

This is my third handblender, and I have long been convinced of the usefulness of this bit of kitchengadget. Soups, dips, I couldn't cook without it.
After my second blender desintegrated during use to the point of potential electrocution (a Breville, same sort of price range) I decided to go for German quality . No regrets: - most importantly, the release/change of shafts is very easy and sturdy -press a button, no need to twist- (point of great frustration with the previous two) - the digital display is very useful, to see if you can go faster or slower during or before use - all parts are of decent quality, including the measuring cup - the knives are sharp - both chopper and blender do their job very well (not tried whisk) - feels pleasant in the hand, non slip, easy to control, not too heavy - nice design One minor thing: the Amazon product info states an ice crushing function, whereas the manual tells you not to do this (having said that I think it could probably cope, a previous one could be used for this function and was less well designed)

Not nearly reliable enough for the price,
This review is from: Krups Premium Multi Function Hand Blender (Kitchen & Home)
I bought one of these from Amazon in October 2009. By mid-January 2010 the electronic speed control had ceased to work, being stuck on mid-speed. Before that though, the metal shaft of the main fitment actually became detached during normal pureeing, from what I could then see was the inadequate plastic bung-like thing that provides the coupling to the motor. On this occasion I pushed the plastic bit back into the metal part and tried to forget it had happened. I did worry though that any food-stuff/water that got past that bung thing could fester in the stainless-steel shaft unless one deliberately wrenched it off periodically to give it a good seeing to in a dishwasher (which not all of us have anyway). The other parts of the system all seemed to work well: the chopper was very good for breadcrumbs at least, but they always are, so nothing special there; don't recall whether I used the whisk, but again these are usually unproblematic as they don't, or shouldn't, put much strain on the machine if used for the correct purposes.
But it's usually for the 'whizzing' bit that one buys these things for (soups and sauces), so that's the bit that gets used the most. After all, when these things first came out they were one-piece and that's all you could use them for in any case. I've now returned the Krups to Amazon for a full refund, and shall try the flashy Bosch to see if it's been any better designed and tested.

A very nifty gadget,

I have had one of these for about 18 months now and have been using it regularly all that time with no problems. On recently moving from the UK to the USA, this was the only electrical gadget I brought because I love it so much, meaning I had to buy a giant voltage converter so I could still use it! I wanted this one as I don't have the space for a giant food processor, or really need that sort of capacity when only cooking for two people. For a small machine it does a lot!
All the parts are good quality - both the plastic jugs are strong, the chopper blades are sharp (my finger confirmed this on the first washing!), and the interchangeability of all the attachments is very easy and sturdy. I have put them all through the dishwasher with no problems either. I use them for smoothies, breadcrumbs, whizzing soup, finely chopping onions, whisking eggs and creaming butter and sugar for cakes (and probably lots more that I can't think of off-hand). I often use quite a low power for the latter as the egg whisk doesn't seem to like 'tougher' things on high speed. My only downside is that you have to hold the power button down to make it work. This can be quite tedious when you are using it for an extended period and you tend to get mild finger cramp! But that's a minor annoyance, and all-in-all it's very good and I would happily recommend it to others.
