I am a bit of an expert on coffee machines! I've had one of those posh gaggia ones (bought it second hand - bad idea!). Worked really well for three weeks! Nice coffee but the motor on it seized up (colossally expensive to repair!!) so I thought better of buying another one of those. I then bought a straight forward filter coffee machine - this was ok but not exciting if you like your lattes, mochas etc. At home I've currently got a dedicated cappucino maker which makes great cappucino but involves way too much washing up and cleaning! At work we've got a Tassimo (makes great hot chocolate!!) but doesn't impress me with its coffee. We've also got a senseo - makes a very small cup. If you like a mug then you have to use two pods or a mugsize pod which makes it expensive.
Our latest purchase for cgristmas was a dolce gusto. This is without a doubt the best coffee maker I've ever had. All the drinks latte, mocha, cappucino, lungo, hot chocolate are great - it even does an iced coffee! Even my husband (who prefers tea!!!) thinks the drinks taste just like you'd get in Starbucks etc. Washing up and cleaning is minimal, it's quite small and neat, it's very easy too use and available in a good range of colours. Well done to whoever thought up this clever little machine! I love it!!!

I have owned one of these little machines for almost a week now. I love coffee but I can't stand the instant stuff. So over the years I have had various gadgets to try and recreate the perfect coffee. A few were good but most were naff. But I am so glad I discovered this. It is fantastic !

I read many reviews on it, mostly good but a few bad but finally decided to go for it. My main concern was that the coffee would taste like Nescafe instant....but I needn't have worried...it taste nothing like the instant stuff. The machine looks great in the kitchen. It couldn't be simpler to use. Fill up the water reservoir & wait approx 30 seconds or until the light stops flashing. Insert the coffee pod of your choice and turn the knob ! Its really that easy. The Longu coffee tastes great, nice and strong. The Latte are simply gorgeous & they taste just as good as the ones you buy in the coffee shops. The wife loves cappuccino and she gives the ones from this machine 9/10. The hot chocolate also taste really good especially with a couple of marshmallows floating on top.

Coffee pods do retail for around £2.99 for 16 (or 8 if its a drink that requires milk) but I think its worth it and still a lot cheaper than a coffee shop. I also have found no problems obtaining the pods from the normal supermarkets.

I read many complaints in the reviews regarding the sweetened milk. I can not tolerate any sugar in either tea or coffee so I was not expecting to enjoy the Latte or the cappuccino's. But I was pleasantly surprised and I did not find them overly sweet at all. Perhaps Nescafe have listened to the complaints and changed the recipe.

This, without doubt, has to be the best kitchen gadget I have brought. It actually does what its supposed to do and looks great to.

I like coffee, it is the only thing that gets me through the day. I was fed up with the instant stuff served up at the office and I tried the Tassimo (not a lover) and Senseo (great but small cup of coffee) then went for the Dolce Gusto and love it. I have one in the office and want one for home. Very easy to use and you can have espresso (first thing on arriving at the office just the kick i need) Caffe Lungo (tall and dark) Latte Macchiato (the best) and Cappuccino (afternoon treat). Uses a simple pod system with one for milk and one for latte/Cappu and all podsavailable at Tescos and I am sure other well known supper markets. Pods are a little expensive but as the local shop charges £1.20 for a latte and this one tastes much better. Time for coffee I think

I made a mistake of ordering Dolce Gusto pods online WITHOUT owning a Dolce Gusto coffee maker (I somehow thought they are normal instant coffee...). I immediately thought of returning the pods to the online merchant, but read the reviews online about the machine and became curious.

I ordered it from amazon and it was delivered very quickly to my office. The machine is dummyproof and the coffee quite dreamy. And it gives me very good espresso or latte in twenty seconds. No more going down the stairs to queue for twenty minutes to get a latte for £2.90.

The coffee is good and tastes pretty much like well known coffee chain stuff. Keep it simple and by avoiding the two pack drinks you halve the cost. And get the right size pod for your cup - they seem to come in three drink sizes. You can always double the strength by using two pods of small cup size - but then you have doubled the price of the coffee to something like 40p. I've found pods cost about 20p each in supermarkets.

But I now need to strip the unit and clean out the chalk as it's stopped working correctly. There is a descaler kit you can buy - more costs! - but I didn't do this and quite soon the unit stopped functioning as it should. You can hardly descale a unit that doesn't let water through. My son uses a water filter before filling his unit - this seems to work well. (But more cost again!) Opening it up is proving to be a pain is it has it's own style star screws. Not quite sure why this has been done, other than make you return the unit to the maker. (More costs!)
