The krummhorn is a unique renaissance instrument. Some people are irritated by its buzzing reedy sound. Some people are enchanted by it. I happen to fall in the latter category. So I love this CD. It is rich and hearty. A krummhorn feast. If you aren't a krummhorn fan, then this is not for you. The collection was chosen and arranged to showcase the instrument. But for those who are transported back in time by it, then this is a must-have CD. This was well done.

If you like bagpipes, oboes, bassoons, and Baroque, but have never heard a Krummhorn, here is a treat. Yes, double-reed is the common denominator. It's the "buzzy-ness" of a double-reed that attracts me, and the Krummhorn is the buzzy-est. Not only is there a Krummhorn, but they come in all four voices - bass, tenor, alto, and soprano for a Krummhorn Kwartet. As for this collection, I've heard music selections that I like better but Krummhorn music is few and far between. Check it out.

Excellent addition to early music collection at a good price.
Good performances - effective use of massed Krummhorns
Good:
Usually Krummhorn pieces are sprinkled throughout an early music CD (if you are lucky). This is all Krumm, all the time, pretty much (sometimes mixed with other instruments / voices for variety).
Excellent price.
Nit Picking:
The pieces are generally short - standard rem music units of 45 sec repeated - sometimes longer. It would be nice to have a couple extended pieces. Still, you get a lot of 'standards' in one place with massed Krumms.
I'd recommend it. If you appreciate the majesty of the Krummhorn, I recommend it highly. Glad I found it!
