Kris Longknife had no choice about growing up rich and pampered. When she did have a choice, she joined the Navy, thereby acquiring much needed abilities. When Kris' best friend vanishes, she boards the next ship to Turantic, the last place he was seen alive. But there's more to the rescue than meets the eye. Turantic is not only the most twisted hellhole in the galaxy, but it's also under quarantine because of a deadly plague. And after a sudden, suspicious loss of communication with the outside world, Kris realizes the length some enemies will go to for a life-threatening bait-and-trap. But she is willing to go even further - and deeper into Turantic's secrets - to survive.
So says the cover and this is pretty much what the book is about. I've enjoyed yet another strong heroine. This is a book I would recommend to any sci-fi/action fan.

Reasonably well written, though it would be nice if the editor had paid proper attention to the spelling and grammar, there isn't too much of it, but it does seem that the editor did their job half asleep judging by the silly mistakes they missed.

The whole 'one of those Longknifes' thing remains as stupid as ever, since the author does very little to substantiate the opinions he then ascribes to the majority of people. Her living family basically consists of 2 still living war heroes, an ex politician businessman and a popular politician (he keeps wining re-election), there are no black sheep in the family and no justification for the family apparently being seen as so untrustworthy.

The backstory of her maid is just so stupid. It's already got old in this book, but don't worry it continues for a few more yet. Basically, is she trustworthy? Don't know, but we don't have time to sit down and find out. Everyone repeatedly skips plans to get to the bottom of this mystery even as she is obviously hiding things. Also, if you find the cutesy 'mama Abby' way the maid refers to herself to be condescending drivel, rejoice, it continues for quite some time and doesn't get any better. In fact, nothing about the maid's character gets less irritating, ridiculous or stupid.

The Mary Sue nature of Kris continues, and remains as stupid as ever. She beats everyone and completes every mission successfully, even when she makes mistakes she comes out on top, and she never has to be saved by anyone else. Her companions are there to advise her against doing things that they know much more about but she does anyway and wins, every time. It got old in the first book, it's even older now,

This is the first book about Kris Longknife I have read, and I have already ordered several others! In this book Kris is on leave and goes to the rescue of a friend who has been kidnapped. This time Kris has to play the 'Princess' to the hilt whilst using Longknife tactics to free her friend and the planet she is on. Kris is a charismatic character and her friends are also intriguing, I especially enjoyed her 'ladies maid' with her string of travelling suitcases and 'boob' bombs. I look forward to meeting them all again.

The 2nd book in the series & the book where some of the most important team members get fleshed out. Definitely worth a re-read :-)
