This cute Allen guy is only 24, married and has little fanfare - I'd expected formulaic pop songs filling up his debut album with maybe one or two hit singles.
I was really surprised when I listened to the stream of the songs, they are more cool Indie pop-rock, which were exactly in my musical zone. Beautiful melodies, brilliant lyrics, emotional delivery, little nuances in his vocal, understated instrumentations - all spell QUALITY.
Love the raw ballads 'I Need To Know' (Toby Gad, Kris Allen & Lindy Robins) and 'Bring It Back' (Co written by Allen and Francis Eg White) the best. But the indie vibe in Red Guitar (solely written by Allen) is simply brilliant, giving us a glimpse of his potential in song writing. Before We Become Undone and The Truth give us snippets of Allen's gorgeous low register.
The playful Alright With Me, Can't Stay Away, & Written all Over My Face will definitely appeal to college going guys, they are that cool.
Vocal wise, Allen adapts it differently injecting different nuances for different moods of the songs, excellent delivery.
A CD which does not need the Forward button. I'm impressed.
