Clear, good photos, and a must for teen girls (and boys) and ladies, for me Karate and most of the others are a waste of time. Krav combines, boxing, judo, tai chi and bits from a variety of other disciplines and arts to provide the most simple and effective defensive techniques. I have started to slowly introduce my teen daughter and son to it. It may not get them out of every situation they may find themselves in but it gives them confidence and some skills which is better than none.

Good Information, But A Bit Misleading 18 Feb. 2012
By Shawn Kovacich - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I just finished reading this book and it is very well written with plenty of photographs to accompany the descriptive text for the various techniques described and, for the most part, sound and practical information concerning violence and self-defense related issues. Now I do have to take this time to give the writers kudos for admitting in the introduction section that all of the techniques described within these pages could also be found in their other books, such as:

Krav Maga for Beginners: A Step-by-Step Guide to the World's Easiest-to-Learn, Most-Effective Fitness and Fighting Program

Black Belt Krav Maga: Elite Techniques of the World's Most Powerful Combat System

Complete Krav Maga: The Ultimate Guide to Over 230 Self-Defense and Combative Techniques

Now although I give them kudos for admitting that at the beginning of the book, it gave me pause to wonder why they didn't just eliminate that material from this book and replace it with new techniques and/or scenario based examples of situations women may find themselves in and how to handle them. For example; getting into and out of a vehicle, what to do if you are attacked in your own home, while in bed, while on a date, etc.

However, I have to admit that I was more than a bit disappointed in the fact that this book is supposedly geared towards women, hence the title name, "Krav Maga For Women," I found only 14 pages out of the 200 pages in the book that were directly focused on the issues that women are confronted with to a much greater degree than men, specifically; sexual assaults. Although men are and can be the victims of sexual assaults as well. This issue however is not one that most men will have to ever deal with, but every single women will! This makes it an absolute priority for women and should be at the forefront of any good self-defense program.

Now the information provided in the aforementioned 14 pages was for the most part very good information and should be constantly referred to by any woman seeking to learn how to defend herself as well as any instructor who teaches women's self-defense. Now admittedly there were a couple of pieces of advise that I felt were a bit questionable, but I feel that my perception on them might be a bit skewed and therefore may be more of a personal preference rather than anything actually wrong with the advise so I chose not to actual say anything in detail at this time and will instead let the individual reader decide for themselves whether or not the advise was valid.

I would have liked to have given this book five stars because it does contain good solid information and although I don't necessarily agree with every technique in this book, I do agree with the majority of them and those that I don't are mostly ones that I feel could be more efficient if done with a slight variation or two. However, I had to deduct two full stars because I feel that this book and its title is misleading. I mean really, the difference between a man's body and a woman's body is roughly 1%, and that being in the different reproductive organs, basic body size (women are generally of a smaller build than men), and their basic overall physical strength. Therefore, a woman will perform a particular technique the exact same way a man would with the only difference being that a man generally is stronger and physically more durable. Although that is just a generalization, as I have female students that actually hit harder than some of the men, so each individual person is going to be a bit different. So with that in mind, do we really need a separate book for women that shows a women doing various strikes and kicks against a male opponent and then another book that shows the exact same thing only it is a male attacker and a male defender? I don't think so!

This book should have been 100% geared towards women by solely focusing on attacks women are going to face and how to defend against them. If the authors wanted to refer to the proper execution of a certain technique, they could have suggested that this book be a companion book to the others in the series.

So in closing I would have to submit to the individual woman considering purchasing this book, that they need to stop and think if the 14 relevant pages (that are focused solely on issues faced by women) are worth spending the money on. Only you can answer that! And if that answer is yes, then you should also consider purchasing the other books in the series as well as some or all of the following books and DVD's.

Krav Maga: An Essential Guide to the Renowned Method--for Fitness and Self-Defense

Advanced Krav Maga: The Next Level of Fitness and Self-Defense

Krav Maga: How to Defend Yourself Against Armed Assault

Mastering Krav Maga 6 DVD Set -- Self-Defense (Beginner to Advanced)

Ultimate Krav Maga Self-Defense Instructional Set (Beginner to Intermediate)

And here are the book and DVD set that come from Boaz Aviram, a man of great respect in the Krav Maga world.

Pure Krav Maga - Self Defense Mastery

Must Have Book for Women 12 Mar. 2012
By Krav Student - Published on
Format: Paperback
As a Krav Maga student I have watched women in class successfully utilize the techniques in this book against men twice their size, thereby providing them with the confidence needed to defend themselves and not become the next victim or statistic. According to my female classmates, the key to Krav Maga's success for them lies in its simplicity, effectiveness, and use of the human body's natural inclinations under stress. This is exactly what this book provides all women, not just those enrolled in Krav Maga.

Obviously, for those currently taking Krav Maga classes, the book serves as a great reference to hone and perfect the skills learned through personal instruction. Never seen the inside of a Krav Maga center, or had any formal self-defense training? Do not worry! This book provides step-by-step instruction (including pictures and narrative), beginning with the most basic forms of striking and escalating to various techniques to defend against the most common "worst case scenarios" encountered specifically by women. These scenarios include: defenses against unarmed attacks such as wrist/arm pulls and bearhugs; groundfighting (most struggles inevitably end up on the ground); using everyday objects as weapons; dealing with multiple attackers; defenses against edged weapons from the front and from behind; and also defenses against handgun threats.

Women can feel confident in the techniques, scenarios, and training methodology provided, as the authors are world renowned experts in self-defense and hand-to-hand combat. To be honest this book is great tool for anyone, the fact that it is tailored specifically to women really makes it something special.

In short, this book provides women with the skills to fight for their life, and get home safely.

A great book on Self Defense for Women 24 Jun. 2012
By E - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Krav Maga is a fighting system designed to be learned in a quick period of time based on instinctive movements. While there are existing Krav Maga books, I hadn't seen any tailored specifically toward women until now. Women are targets as there are those who perceive us as the weaker sex. Men are generally considered stronger than women so if we're attacked, it's thought we just don't stand a chance. Krav Maga will teach you that fighting spirit and aggression you need. You don't have to be in perfect shape to gain benefit from learning Krav. As the book states in its opening page `Krav Maga for Women is about teaching women how to protect themselves against violent attacks that may occur in almost any modern-day scenario'.

The book is separated into several sections with the main section being the techniques themselves.

Why Krav Maga for Women explains why the book was written. What is Krav Maga explains what Krav Maga is and its benefits. In Krav Maga Training Methodology, you fight the way you train. Training in KM is done as realistically as possible, so in time your body learns the techniques to defend oneself from a position of disadvantage or unfamiliar surroundings. When I was first told I could defend against attackers way bigger than me (I'm 5'2), I thought they were nuts. After my body began learning and remembering the techniques, I was proven totally wrong. There are so many ways to be attacked and KM teaches you to defend yourself from every angle (on the ground, standing, from in front, from behind, from the side). KM doesn't limit the technique toolbox you can use to defend yourself.

Use of Force - How Much Force Can I Use to Defend Myself? This section breaks it down to what constitutes self-defense, legal implications and 'Golden Rules of Self Defense'. While the basic rule in KM is there are no rules, one still has to defend themselves with a reasonable amount of force based on the threat. What's presented here one really needs think about before an attack ever happens at all. You have to check with the laws in your state to make sure you know the consequences of using KM as self-defense. Surviving the Encounter explains the mindset and state of awareness you need to be in to survive the attack. There's even a section on Tactical Tips for Woman (When you're out and about, At Social Events, At Home). While to some the lists may look common sense, it's easy to forget these until something happens.

What to Do If You're Raped or Assaulted-excellent info any woman should be aware of before it should ever happen.

The techniques are well presented, starting from basics (Getting Started) and goes on to Striking Basics, Defenses against Unarmed Attacks, Groundfighting, Using Everyday Objects as Defensive Weapons, Dealing with Multiple Attackers, Defenses Against Handgun Threats and Defenses against Edged Weapon Threats. Depending on the technique presented, the book gives Preferred Target Areas, Striking Surface, Starting Position (Striking Basics up to the
middle of Defenses against Unarmed Attacks), what the attack or Threat is, Immediate Danger, Secondary Danger and the Solution (Defenses against Unarmed Attacks to the end of the techniques). Throughout the book are Helpful Hints throughout. The photos are well illustrated.

I was taking Krav in 2004 when there were no Krav Maga books that I knew of at the time. It wasn't until several years after that Krav Maga became more widely known. This book is made to stand on its own. While KMMW has created several other books before this one, it's not a requirement to have the others to learn what you need right now. By all means, if you want to learn more, feel free to get the other books after you've gone through this book. I've attended Women Only seminars that used what's talked about in this book. I can tell you techniques change (KM is not a stale system) and I even saw a few I originally learned one way and are now presented another. While it's best to train at a Krav Maga center, if you don't have that opportunity, this book is certainly the next best thing. I've been fortunate to have trained with all three authors and I can say without question they're the real deal. Before spending all your time and money getting other resources, check this book out first.
