Since the very low rating for this book seems to be based soley on the fact that the previous buyers didn't notice that they had, in fact, ordered copies in German, I felt that it needed someone to write a proper review.
I had the good fortune to get a copy of this book when it was initially released in English and whilst it is obviously Julian Cope's besotted fan's view (He has a tendency to froth at the mouth at times), it is an excellent introduction to an (at the time) obscure genre of music which does reward further investigation. I haven't got his book on Japanese rock yet though on the basis of this I certainly shall - but not in Japanese, obviously.....

This is a great book, if you can read German! I read a friend's English copy and it was fantastic, but I didn't realise that this was the German edition. Ho hum...

I was one of the fortunate ones who bought this when it was published in the U.K. A very good introduction to a much under rated mucic scene,[not my favourite book though as nothing will ever come close to Alan & Steve Freemans exhaustive Crack in the Cosmic Egg].Julian's done a good job ,though several very important players and groups dont even get a mention!.There's fine chapters on Timothy Leary's invovement with Ashra Temple, plus cracking reads on players such as Rolf Ulrich Kaiser and the Cosmic courier scene. The rest of it covers Neu!,Faust,Can & Tangerine Dream.Popol Vuh {a very important group] get a passing mention.Like i said a good introduction but by no means exhaustive.I would liked more on major players such as Agitation Free,Kollektiv,Annexus Quam but im getting into just listing groups.anyone with a more than casual interest needs to check the Freeman brothers book mentioned above. Its also out of print ,but a fantastic CD-rom version is now out competely updated. Also worth searching out would be Dag Erik Asbjornsen's Cosmic Dreams at Play.

As a bookseller myself the other reviews here only confirm what I have long suspected -- that no-one ever reads an item description. For goodness' sake, it says Language: German!

(My customers tell me the English version is great.)

It would have been very useful to have known this was in German before buying it as an xmas pressie! I expect it you are fluent in German it would be very good but not if your're not! How very embarrassing but i expect i'm not the first or last!

please make it very clear that this is the german edition, there's no great benefit in leaving a load of customers feeling duped. luckily i have a german friend who would be interested in this so we don't have another totally wasted product on our hands.

Another disappointed and annoyed Krautrock fan is taken in by unscrupulous sellers.

I was also looking forward to reading this book in English. The publishers and sellers are definately at fault for not making it clear that this is the German edition - it has English on the cover for Gods sake!!!!!!

My advice to those who (want to) buy?
Don't - until its reprinted in English.
Instead, get a copy of any peer to peer program and download a pdf version of Krautrocksampler (P2P is crawling with them) whilst looking at the photos and cover.

Then complain like hell to Amazon.

Fine, when you read the catalogue listing, it does say the book is written in German. Fine, there are a number of other disgruntled reviewers that confirm that fact. Fine you might think I'm daft for not reading the information fully. That was because I was so excited to find this book on the Amazon UK site. Note AMAZON UK SITE, not AMAZON GERMANY SITE. I feel duped. Grrrrrr
