Just thought I would add to the reviews as I have had real trouble trying to assess what bulbs to put into a refurbishment/extension. It is terribly difficult to decide as it is impossible to go to any one area and see all sorts of variants and makes on working display (something somebody like the build Centre at Swindon should perhaps invest in to help the many, like me, trying to fit LEDs but having a misleading minefield of options (and prices) from which to choose?) As mentioned by others, the claims the "equivalent" in so many adverts are of little help as they vary hugely in actual performance and most are extremely exaggerated and are simply rubbish.

I was considering a complete light fit with Haler units (bulb, fitting and driver as a single unit) but have plumped for Aurora fittings and these replacement bulbs -- Haler units are about £40+ per unit at best. These bulbs are exactly the size of orginal halogen, are clearly much cheaper to run and also much cooler in operation which is an added peace of mind as I have upstairs under floor heating in my build and therefore lots of insulation and despite fire rated light units and clearing the area around the light fitting and shielding, it does not make me feel overly comfortable with the incredible heat that multiple halogen bulbs produce (that's where all the energy is wasted). I originally wanted all bulbs to also be dimmable but have now decided that it simply is not cost effective at this stage and instead have the kitchen lights (and others) on several circuits which can progressively increase the light intensity from background mood to a full-on Blackpool illuminations equivalent!

These have only lasted a couple of months and I put several in at once and only one is still working, so they are not worth bothering with. The light is very different to the halogen bulbs and as a family we didn't like them either. The only advantage is that they don't take out the fuse when they go which is little consolation at this price.

Rubbish!!!

The Items supplied are unbranded alternatives and a different size to genuine Kosnic bulbs. Do not appear to have the same light characteristics. Have applied for a refund.

I've bought 5 or 6 types of GU10 led light bulbs over the last 3 years, and this is the closest I've seen so far to matching a 50w tungsten bulb. The light output appears to me to be roughly equivalent to a 40w bulb, but a lot of this I think is actually down to it's narrower beam. If you're below one it actually feels about 20% brighter than a 50w tungsten bulb. Almost too dazzling! I'd have given these Kosnic bulbs a definite 4 star rating based on just these points alone, but unfortunately the 4 bulbs I bought all have a slightly different colour to them, which is quite annoying. I've checked the boxes and they all definitely say "warm white" on them, but one of the bulbs is quite a bit bluer that the others, and another bulb is quite a lot yellower and warmer than the rest (if they'd all been this colour I might even have considered given them a 5 star rating!). The remaining 2 bulbs have a colour which is somewhere between these two extremes, veering toward the blue end of the spectrum. In something like an office setting I think you'll be perfectly happy with them, but in a kitchen the cooler coloured lights can look overly clinical and make food look quite an anemic unappetizing colour.

So, to sum up: it's painfully slow waiting for led technology to match the light output and colour of a 'traditional' tungsten bulb, but give it another 12 months or so, and I think it might just about be there. No doubt the majority of the general public will quickly catch on at this stage, and the prices will duly come down. Just a shame that the electricity companies will spoil things as usual by upping their prices when this happens in order to make up for the drop in electricity usage that this will cause. Grrr!

I was replacing Led lamps (40 Leds) and a cool white light, these are much better giving a warmer light and a stronger light.
So far so good!

Hi
Just bought these from my local electrical retailers for £13.00, so be sure to shop arround.

Technically very good, but be carfull on the price you pay, there is a big price difference out there.

Also be sure to check the guarantee, I like the 3 year guarantee which is available if you shop arround.

I think for the current price (sub £19) you can't fault this product but be warned... 3100k is still closer to cool white than warm white and if you have others 50W halogens in a room this LED will look decidedly cool in comparison. On ths plus side the bulb is very smart and unlike many of the more 'industrial' looking LED variants. The silver edging adds a touch of class. Good product, but not quite a like-for-like replacement.

I agree that these bulbs are virtually as good as their 50W equivalents but they do produce a slightly narrower and cooler beam, even in the warm white arrangement. This isn't noticeable unless you have got a mixture of bulbs in a track.
I would have no hesitation in replacing the worn out 50W with these when need arises.
