Korn - "Oildale"

Biography

KoЯn will never forget where they came from: a dark place where salvation arrives in the form of twisted, throbbing guitar riffs, syncopated chaotic funk beats, a schizophrenic bass thump and an unmistakable cathartic howl. Emerging from the depths of Bakersfield, California with a sound unlike any other in 1994, Korn have been able to cement themselves as one of the most important bands in rock… Read more in Amazon's Korn Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Combining the stop-start rhythms of Helmet, the hip-hop assault of Rage Against the Machine and the brooding vocals of Faith No More, Bakersfield, California band Korn concocted a golden formula that would reanimate the dormant corpse of heavy metal. The band's self-titled debut is a teenage-fantasy-endorphin-rush--a subversive noisefest as angry and hostile as Slayer but with a propulsive groove perfect for skateboarding, vandalism, or jumping up and down until you're nauseous. Songs like "Blind", "Clown", and "Shoots and Ladders" blend dark, bleak riffs with head-spinning guitar effects and scream-and-response choruses. But even at their most vitriolic, Korn imbue their blustery music with a cathartic element of fun. --Jon Wiederhorn

A previous reveiwer asked if KoRn will ever make an album as good again. Well, I have the answer - NO. This album is so aggressive, so devoid of the mainstream and ultimately so early 90's KoRn that this is a musical feat that can never be re-ccomplished - and personally I don't want it to, becuase if they were to reach these worryingly brilliant heights again, it would certainly take the shine off of this eponymous debut, the most important rock album of the last 25 years . This album has it all for the "alt. metal" fan, from the bruising welcome of 'Blind', the moody monotne of 'Faget' or the album's distressing conclusion, 'Daddy.' Basically, this album contains one classic song after another, it has no weaknesses and it is the album from which all other metal albums are judged - if you never buy another album, make sure this one is in the collection. Brilliant.

This is a emotionally scarring record with more brains that are hidden by the screaming vocals and the back breaking guitars.KoRn are a band that incorporates physical and mental assaults,if you don't believe me listen to "DADDY".

Korn- Korn review 25 Feb 2012
Format:Audio CD
I've heard so many good things about Korn. I know that they started the nu metal genre. So when I saw this album for £2.99, I bought it straight away and I'm so glad I did! In my opinion, Blind and Shoots And Ladders were the best songs. And daddy. Whoah. It packs a hell of a punch. It's basically about how Jonathan Davis (Lead vocals) was raped when he was younger, and his man and dad didn't believe him. I almost felt uncomfortable listening to it. At the end of daddy (After a bit of silence) a hidden track starts playing. A bit random really. What it is is a man and a woman arguing about car parts.
Final verdict (Songs)
Blind - 10/10
Ball Tongue- 8/10
Need to- 7/10
Clown- 9/10
Divine- 7/10
Faget- 8/10
Shoots And Ladders- 10/10
Predictable- 8/10
Fake- 8/10
Lies- 9/10
Helmet In The Bush- 7/10
Daddy- 10/10
Overall I would rate this album 5 stars.
