Product Description

Product Description

Korg TM-40 Korg tuners and metronomes are acclaimed around the world for their extremely high accuracy and superb features. The new TM-40 combines these two functions into a single compact easy-to-use unit. Revolutionary features: A great lesson and practice tool, the TM-40 offers both tuner and metronome functions simultaneously or independently. Its large LCD-type needle delivers both the accuracy of an LCD and the excellent visibility of a needle indicator. It also has LED indicators that show pitch deviation or blink to indicate the tempo, making the TM-40 a highly visual tool. Excellent functionality and a wide detection range With a detection range of C1 (32.70 Hz)~C8 (4186.01 Hz), the TM-40 provides quick and accurate coverage of a wide spectrum of notes and pitches for wind, string, keyboard and most other instruments. Even low-pitched instruments with complex overtone structures are detected with the precision you expect from Korg. A built-in high-sensitivity mic allows acoustic instruments such as guitar and ukulele to be tuned easily and accurately, and the separately sold CM-100 contact mic can be used to send the vibrations directly to the tuner for even greater precision. Sound Out! In addition to the visual tuning guide provided by the meter, you can use the TM-40s built-in speaker to produce a tuning reference pitch (Sound Out). This is convenient for tuning by ear and also useful for ear training. By pressing the Sound switch you can

4.0 out of 5 stars On time, and in tune (but in the dark...), 10 Jan 2009
By Ian D. Fordham "fforfreddy" (Chelmsford, Essex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have a number of tuners, used for guitar, bass, mandolin and ukulele.

Recently I did some home recording and realised that I have a nasty tendency to speed up - particularly on instrumentals. Poor joke coming up: perhaps I should become a drummer :>))

Anyway, a bit a research turned up this unit, and being happy with other bits of kit from Korg, I decided to buy it.

In essence, it's two items in one. On the left are the controls for the tuner and on the right are the metronome controls. They are independent and can be operated simultaneously.

The tuner displays the note you are playing (into the built-in microphone or the 1/4" jack input). It uses a needle-type tuning display in the LCD window and it's quite a good size. Above the window are red "flat" and "sharp" lights flanking a green "in tune" light. The unit can play a selected note through the inbuilt sounder if you prefer the old "pitch-pipe" tuning method. The tuner can be calibrated to pitches other than A=440 if required.

The metronome can be set to a good range of tempi (or by a tap method) and can be set to indicate the first beat of the bar for 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 beats in a bar, plus triplets etc.

It is easy to use, the metronome is helpful and the tuner seems as accurate as any I've used (apart from expensive rack and strobe-type units).

My only gripe, and the reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is the lack of a back-light for the LCD. If there is one and I've failed to find it, I'm sure someone will tell me!!

5.0 out of 5 stars great quality product, 7 May 2009
By Mr. B. T. Acton "oceanjaws" (england) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
such a brill product
i've had mine for a year now
no complaints at all
it's a chromatic tuner, so can handle any weird tunings you want to mess with,
the metronome has a volume dial, which is dead handy if you dont want to annoy your roommate
it's sturdy.
i'm a gigging muso and the lack of backlight has never been a problem due to the #/b lights at the top of the display.
it has a mic for acoustic and line-in for electric instruments
it has headphone socket.
my only complaint is that it doesn't make toast.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good, 8 April 2009
Just received this and started using it immediately. I can't offer a detailed review because I play an electric Yamaha Clavinova so I have no use for the tuner. However, the metronome works perfectly. It is very easy to operate and I was using it in seconds. This item is a neat size and feels sturdy. If I find any problems I will edit this review.

A great little device - not much more expensive than a simple electronic metronome but with superb tuning facilities - both active and passive.
