Format:Audio CD
This is a great CD for anyone who wants to listen to some early Kool and the Gang before they became commercial. This has a well balanced mixture of funky grooves and mellow tunes. You certainly won't be disappointed!

This is a compilation from 1973 that was remastered in 1996. The original vinyl edition included a selection of the Gang's work from their first five albums. The CD however, includes tracks right up to the late 70s and a much longer and astonishingly beautiful version of "Stop, Look, Listen" from "Music Is The Message". It also does not include "Wild Is Love" (from "Good Times") which was on the original vinyl instead replacing it with the outstanding "Wild and Peaceful" from the album of the same name.
The remastered sound is awesome and this CD really showcases the incredible artistry of Kool & The Gang, an amazing group of musicians who were able to bring their sophisticated jazz abilities to the funk music that marked the first ten albums of their career. The CD also includes "Messenger of Wisdom" which was recorded for "Light of Worlds" but never made the final edition of that album.
Despite all this tinkering, or perhaps because of it, this CD flows seamlessly and is probably my favourite although I like all of the first ten Kool & The Gang albums. Superb.

Great collection of instrumental pieces

I love this album. I'm not a music guy, but I like this collection of instrumental tracks that I think were cut prior to their more disco-y phase (think celebration and cherish the love). Very good for chilling out and or making out.
