One of the best books I have ever read. It will bring a tear to your eye when you read this book. Theo Richmond brings this dead town back to life with all it's colour, charm and characters and then it is layed back down to rest as you relive it's destruction by the Nazi's.

A Journey into the Past 18 April 2009
By Ford Ka TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
This is an absolutely oustanding book - Richmond managed to recreate a world which ceased to exist at the onset of the Second World War, the world of Jews from the central Polish town of Konin. The book is touching both in descriptions of Richmond's quest for the missing shtetl which can be found only in the fading memories of Jews who somehow survived the Holocaust and in his recreation of the Jewish town that does not exist any more. An absolute must for all those who think that Holocaust was just another tragedy in the past on some distant continent. A perfect gift to people who have roots in Poland - some of my friends found their relatives described in the book. Maybe you or your friends will share this luck?

A true masterpiece 10 Oct 2011
Normally I do not read books about the Holocaust since I find them too upsetting. When I picked up a second-hand copy of this book, for some reason I was drawn to it and I am very glad I was. The human stories which the author discovers in his quest to recreate the Jewish life in Konin before the war are moving and monumental. The stories of death and destruction are, of course, upsetting but the way the author weaves them into the story reinforces the poignancy of the whole quest.
