Chose this particular music stand as a birthday present for my husband who is a musician as he had said that this one was what he had always wanted. He was really delighted with it and the quality speaks for itself.

It may not make you an instant virtuoso, but your performance will not be distracted by any worries about flimsier music stands giving up on you in the middle of the show.

When my niece needed a music stand for her singing lessons, instead of getting a cheap one, we decided to go for quality. It is a bit heavier than cheaper ones, but that also translates into solidity. As it needs to withstand repeated and at least weekly folding and unfolding, I'd not trust a cheap one to last long.

At present, it has lasted just over a year. And that is despite falling over a few times, being dropped, and someone trying to unfold it in the wrong way – at least a few times before she got how it worked.

When it comes to the latter, it is actually possible – at least to try – to start unfolding it the wrong way. One has to make sure the parts making up the actual music stand bit are in the right position so that it unfolds easily. If there is resistance, one is doing it wrong.

A lot of force would be needed to actually twist it so much it breaks. I'm not sure it's even possible, for it is very strongly constructed. A flimsier stand would be twisted easily and even broken if done the wrong way.

Of course it would have been preferable if it wasn't possible to try opening it the wrong way at all. I guess that's the only negative I can think of when it comes to this, but I don't think it's enough to deduct a star in my rating. One simply has to learn how to do it, and once that is over and done with, it should give you a lifetime of worry-free sheet music support.

I bought this as a present for my husband who plays in a brass band and has to carry and continually put this stand up and down. It is portable enough for the task, although a stand pouch helps with this, and is sturdy enough for carol playing and bandstand jobs in windy weather. A great little stand which is sturdy, but looks good.

Strong and robust German quality. Buy a good stand once. Don't bother with reverse engineered Chinese/ cheapo stuff, it's a false economy.

The leg mechanism is designed so that the stand can never collapse even if the screw is loose. The tubes of the stand do not accidentally come apart. The top nut has a toothed ring mechanism so that it can never slip when loaded with music.

The improved leg design means a longer centre pole, and the stand is not so compact when folded up for travel

Doesn't go tall enough, no carrying bag and very expensive. I recommend the one from LIDL when you can get it.
