The most in-depth RPG experience in existence, 10 Aug 2004
This is quite easily my favourite game of all time, but for reasons that no-one else seems to mention, and that is atmosphere. The general feeling you get when you really start to get into this legendary story and start your quest for the 108 stars, occurs when you look past the graphics and appreciate the absolutely exceptional soundtrack, ingenious battle system, complicated yet rewarding methods of getting certain characters to join your entourage, and the all-too-rare grand scale battles, which are admittedly better handled in Suikoden II. There's a muted beauty to the rugged locations, and building your bustling castle from a ruin is a true joy. The story couldn't be better, and although isn't told as majestically as Final Fantasy, it feels as if it encompasses the whole game world, rather than your own group. This game is expensive, short and ultimately too easy, but it's a must before playing the well-rounded sequel, and the replay value is massive due to the collectable character motif. Another good reason to play this game before the sequel, is because you can tranfer your completed game data from this game onto the start of Suikoden II, starting it with the same items - a bit of a novelty, but it breaks you into the game nicely. I haven't played Suikoden III yet, but i'm due to get hold of it shortly, and i reckon everyone else should too, even if it means buying an American PS2 as it never got a PAL release, and Suikoden IV is looking ace too. Just don't bother tracking down the Japanese-only Suikogaiden titles (they're little more than interactive movies).

Konami have made me proud!!!, 8 Mar 2004
This game from Konami is absolutely amazing. With over 108 playable characters to have in your team and over 42 magical runes there isn't anything this RPG doesn't have. The ability to customize your own castle makes it much better. With a deep story-line and a war going on there is just amazing. The graphics are not as brilliant as something like Final Fantasy but the cartoony side of it makes the gameplay very good. The ability to have six players in your team makes the fighting fast paced and the bosses are hard aswell. With the story itself being extremely huge and to try and get all the 108+ charactersthere is plenty to do. An easy 5 stars!!!

One of the best psone rpgs there is, 8 May 2005
Don't be put off by the price for this game, it is truly amazing. When I first played Suikoden, it was my friends copy that I'd borrowed. I didnt want to give it back ever and had to get my own copy no matter what the cost. If you like final fantasy(the earlier games anyway) you'll love this game, its even better. The storyline is captivating, and can move to tears in places. The graphics are old school, which I'll admit, put me off when my friend begged me to play it because she loved it. The graphics are better than ff1-6. The main character you control is bigger so your less likely to lose track of them on the screen :p. The views are really stunning in places, and the soundtrack, although not vocal, remains one of my favourites. The battle system is turn based. You set up your character to attack, defend, or use rune magic( also pretty ^^). It employs tactics as if you have no equipment, your bound to lose eventually, and you can use items to heal in battle. With 108 collectable characters theres bound to be a favourite for everyone, boys and girls alike. There are also 2 different endings to this game, depending on if you get all 108 characters or not. Most reviewers put this game down as nowadays a lot of games are shoot em up/beat em up or racing and they tend to favour these. Its a pity there arnt more games like this.
