Silent Hill 3 continues the series' trademark brand of psychological horror and terrifying gameplay. As a teenage girl named Heather, players must explore and unravel the mysterious connection between the god-forsaken town and her inner fears. With enhanced graphical detail, a more complex storyline, and even more grotesque monsters than the previous games, Silent Hill 3 promises to be the best horror adventure ever.

Silent Hill 3 is definately the best SH game to date. The graphics have been improved since SH2, there are more variety of monsters and the atmosphere and music in general is much more creepy than in SH2.

For example, in SH2, when you are playing as James and the game switches to "Nightmare Mode", it is difficult to see the difference between Normal and Nightmare mode, except the doors are slightly rusty. When you switch to Nightmare on SH3, you'll know it! :-)
Very gory, and very disturbing. There are some particularly scary moments in SH3 that will both surprise you and make you jump out of your seat.

SH3 has far more in common with SH1, in that the storyline is connected and it has a religious cult aspect to the game, much like the first Silent Hill, which I think is a big plus!

A word of warning: you need a fairly decent PC to run this game. To give you an idea, the MINIMUM PC specs required are a Pentium III or Athlon 1ghz but a 1.6ghz is recommended.

Again, 256MB RAM are minimum but its really preferrable to have 512MB. If you don't have at least a Nvidia Geforce3 (minimum) forget it. It also takes up alot of hard drive space- about 5gigs!
Oh yeah, and you MUST have a DVD-ROM drive!

i have never played any of the previous silent hill games but after playin SH3 for only a few minutes, i was hooked on a game that is the definition of terror.
what can i say? the graphics are excellent and give the game a rusty feel (especially in nightmare mode). camera angles give you a very chlostrophbic and awkward feeling that keeps you wondering what will be around the next corner.
the music and sound effects are also great, with scratchy tracks, random screams that make you jump out of your chair and sinister noises from unseen monsters.
the gameplay isnt like anything else, a world away from the predictable Resident Evil series. new weapons include a samurai sword, uzi and mace to cut monsters up with, but even with the 10+ weapons, you never really prepared for what might be through that next door. fights with monsters often come out of the blue and finish just as quickly, leaving your hands trembling with shock over your keyboard.
this game is truly something different for the pc and whatever type of game you enjoy, i would recommend this one (if you dont mind playing with every light on , that is!). it is great for veterans of the series and newcomers alike, just make sure you have a pretty high-spec computer or you will be left choking in your graphics card's smoke.

Get this game if you like horror in any shape or form. Going far beyond the influence of the popular Resident Evil series, Silent Hill (1-4) has continued to truly frighten players. This game will scare you, be it the visuals or the sound. I have given this game a perfect score because of the gameplay and not its computer-friendly aspect. It demands a specific computer set-up and will not (generally) tolerate less. I managed to get it working on my system which had an unsupported video card/less RAM but it was difficult, required much tweaking and can therefore be potentially offputting.

Other than that, if you want to jump occasionally, play Resident Evil. If you want to enter a horror movie, play this.
