Product Description

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 will mark a new beginning for the popular series, with an all-new engine allowing for the most comprehensive advance for the Pro Evolution Soccer series since its inception. The new engine has been in development for a number of years and uses Kojima Production's renowned FOX Engine at its core, extended and enhanced to match the bespoke and complex demands of a football title.

  • TrueBall Tech: This allows the player to trap or knock on a pass using the analogue stick with detailed barycentric physics determining the weight shift of the player and the height and speed of the pass, as to how the player’s body will automatically shape to receive it.

  • Motion Animation Stability System (M.A.S.S.): Simulates the bodily contact between multiple players within bespoke animations that segue seamlessly into each other. Dependent on factors such as their size and power, players will stumble but instantly recover if clipped.

  • Heart: Defining what makes football so engrossing is difficult. Heart aims to recreate the effects of team support, both on an individual player basis and across the entire team.

  • PES ID: PES 2013 set a new bar for realism, with its inclusion of the Player ID system. PES 2014 takes this even further with twice as many stars featuring bespoke animations and AI.

  • The Core: Visually PES 2014 will benefit from an incredible level of acuity, from the weave of the kits, through to facial movement, and a new animation process that offers slick segues from one move to the next, with no pauses or restrictions on control. Stadia will be faithful to real-life, with the entrances to the pitches recreated, crowds that move during the course of the game The new system also allows for a new light-mapping effect, adding a natural look to the proceedings. The flow of a match has also been improved, with tactical decisions made on the fly, and the removal of cut scenes after specific events.

  • Team Play: Via the new game’s innovative Combination Play users can set up a variety of different tactics in key areas of the pitch using three or more players. These players will make very different off-the-ball runs to exploit holes in the defence or midfield, using the flanks, curved runs, or overlapping play to make themselves available.

NOTE:As with all sports titles updates for PES 2014 are provided throughout the year via a series of patches the customer downloads. They are not updated on the disc. The customer needs to log on to XBOX Live to obtain the latest update.
  • Product Description

Working from the ground up, PES Productions have strived to rework every element of play, creating a fresh and energetic new standard for football titles. In addition to noticeably improved graphics and seamless animation, the thrust of the new system’s power has been used to redefine the way football is played on a home system. Gone are the limitations imposed by dated animation systems and AI elements, and instead PES 2014 boasts a central core that perfectly mimics the skill and awareness that elevates the world’s greatest players above their peers.

Six central tenets combine to establish PES 2014 as a new benchmark in football simulations, governing everything from the way the player receives and controls the ball, the physicality of play, and the ‘feel’ of match-day: the rush and euphoria or crushing lows that experiencing an important games can bring. As such, the key pillars on which PES 2014 is based are:

True B all Tech: For the first time in a football simulation, PES 2014 centres everything on the ball: how it moves, and how players use it. First touch and sublime control are what set certain players apart from others. The ability to not only read a pass, but to be one step ahead and to know what is needed to gain yards on an encroaching defender. TrueBall Tech allows the player to trap or knock on a pass using the analogue stick with detailed barycentric physics determining the weight shift of the player and the height and speed of the pass, as to how the player’s body will automatically shape to receive it.

Thus, the player has total control in determining how their body is angled to receive a pass, whereas previous football titles present the user with scant options. Instead, TrueBall Tech means that it can be chested or nodded past an opponent, flicked into space or to a team mate, while closer dribbling control is a much more personal attribute in the new game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gameplay, frame rate issues 22 Sep 2013
    Platform for Display:Xbox 360
A lot is being said about the frame rate issues for this years pes 14. I've read on the forums that the best thing to do is change the setting on you xbox 360 to 720p. I have a full HD1080p samsung tv and when played in 1080p the game was struggling with response times, lag issues. I have since changed these setting so the game is played in 720p and let's just say the game is absolutely immense with true fluid and responsive football that is an absolute joy to play. This may not change online gameplay but 1 vs 1 or vs computer is just so much fun.

This is total football, all konami need to do is sort the data packs for faces, teams and stadiums and we have the best football game on the market.

4.0 out of 5 stars Konami excel. 16 Oct 2013

Once again Konami have excelled at ineptness. The game might be great, but there is a plethora of bugs and unexplained features, you will spend as much time on the net reading up from other users what most of the features mean as you will on playing a truely immersive game. The bugs will and are getting ironed out by updates but you know Konami will leave some in there, until next year.

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
If you read my previous reviews on PES you'll understand that I am a hands up "fanboy" of Pro Evo. Like many others, I have played the series since the ISS days, and I have always had a bit of respect for a franchise which holds up so well against the licence saturated FIFA series.

Well anyway - on to my review. And boy, where to start?

The menus for PES2014 are garish, ugly, clumsy, slow and have a totally pointless 'mouse pointer' which deepens the annoyance of using them. It is a design disaster - honestly the worst user interface of any 360 game I have played. I have literally no idea how a games company could approve such a completely awful farce of a design like this. An unmitigated failure. And sadly it get worse.

The 'upgraded' look of the players, stadiums etc. The stadiums look nice, and the strips look fine - but I'm not going to pretend I could see that much of a difference. Assuming that future patches will correct faces (lets hope so)is going to be required, because the standard faces are a joke. Even the unlicenced faces of old usually bore a passable resemblance to the real players without resorting to patches, but the unlicenced faces in 2014 are a horrific collection of scary clones - I mean you have to go back a long way to see players who were all this identical. Plasticky blank generic faces, right out of a Sci-Fi B Movie script. The animation of the players is still ok, but all the hype about the improvements is simply an exagerration. It is not a leap forward, and is not the saving grace of the game - oh no...

As a long-time ISS/PES fan who can't abide FIFA's childish approach to football gaming, it pains me to say that I think Konami's franchise is finally on the verge of dying with the 2014 instalment.

First and foremost, PES 2014 looks HORRIBLE. Everything takes an age to load (the DLC datapack took over an hour to implement!) and the menus and interfaces are awfully tacky. To call them "clunky" to navigate is an understatement.

The in-game graphics are equally terrible, looking more like an arcade game from 1999 than a next-gen console. It's a giant step back from PES 2013 - and that's saying something!

The editing function is almost exactly the same as PES 2013, with the exact same kit templates and just a couple of new hair templates to boast about. You can't base copy existing players either - one of several small features that have been removed.

The worst part is that PES 2014 is obviously a rush-job and has been released despite being plainly unfinished. It looks and plays like a beta version of the game, yet Konami still have the brass danglies to charge full price.

    Save your money. Avoid.

2.0 out of 5 stars The death of pro evo soccer. 6 April 2014
    By steveO

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
when I bought pro evo soccer 15 years ago or iss pro as its 1st incarnation was called, I was smitten with it, the gameplay was a breath of fresh air and I would play it endlessly. pes 6 was the last pes I trully enjoyed. Since then, things have gone a little pear shaped with this Konami title.
Scoring a goal on bygone pes titles used to give you a real sense of achievement, the feedback from the game was exceptional.
Scoring a goal on pes 14 is now akin to being slapped with a dead fish. The game has lost all its feeling and all you feel while playing it is numbness.
It looks as thou I'll be going back to FIFA after a very long love affair with pes. At least with FIFA you actually feel some immersion.
Pes has lost its soul.... R.I.P :(

    1.0 out of 5 stars Loved PES...until now 22 Mar 2014

Every year a new PEs, every year people say it's gone downhill. I think everyone year has been an improvement, until now. So disappointed by this release, I've even gone to the dark side and bought FIFA instead.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not fun. Not worth the effort. 15 Oct 2013
    Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Verified Purchase
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I'm ready to give up on this game. Gave it two stars, because it's playable at least.

I started playing on the amateur difficulty setting and it was WAY too easy. So I bumped it up to regular and it's much harder, it's quite a jump in difficulty. I've started getting the hang of it and started using the training mode a lot more. I thought, like in any game, if I perfect my skills in training, i'd get more into the game. But i'm not enjoying it. In other football games, if I don't score, I still enjoy the gameplay on the pitch, but not here.

I don't think this game is worth the time. I'm starting to understand what the online gaming site reviews meant. This game is no fun.
In fact this in one of the few football games I ever remember playing that was no fun. Win, lose or draw, I had a blast playing Pro Evo 2013 on the Wii. It wasn't a dumb Wii game, it seems much more balanced than Pro Evo 2014. I've played at least one football game on each generation since the Gameboy and Snes and I always had fun playing the games. As they say, when you play sports, whether you win or lose you should have fun.

I was really excited about this as well. I thought, this is the perfect time to get the newest Pro Evo. It might be the last on the Xbox 360 and PS3. And Konami must have perfected it by now for the hardware.

It would have been better if I didn't use the online multiplayer code. It's probably lost a lot of resale value.

EDIT: Now the games 20, already just a couple months after launch, what a waste of money.
