Manufacturer's Description

Over 500 years have passed since a mortal named Bryce Boltzmann endured a life-altering tragedy at the hands of Astaroth, the Demon King. His wife murdered, left defeated and rendered immortal, he now moves through life without aspirations other than where he will find his next drink.

Lending a hand to the clandestine group, the National Anti-Demon Agency (NADA), he pursues redemption through the extermination of demonic forces within the modern day world along with his agency partner, Arcadia.

NeverDead is a third person action/shooter offering a radically new game experience within the genre based on decapitation and regeneration. Lose any limb and still have the ability to endure the fight as death has already passed you by...

  • Live forever and become immortal through a unique decapitation and regeneration mechanic that offers a different approach to 3rd Person Action gameplay. Detach your arm and use it as an exploding detonation device against the enemy, or tear off your head and use it as a scout within the level design.
  • Fight in critical situations making use of the hero's immortality! Get electrocuted and shoot electric bullets, catch on fire and use your body as a light source, fight enemies in a hurricane or on the highway among passing cars and several other invigorating environments.
  • Combination of various weaponry at your disposal including an array of guns for long-range attacks. Whip out the Butterfly Blade to slash and destroy what is in front of you.
  • Online co-operative and competitive "Challenges" against the enemy or each other. Play with up to 4 players and outwit those you're going against using the decapitation/regeneration elements as strategy.
  • Destroy the world you are in as wide-ranging destructible environments will influence how players take out the enemy. Large-scale destruction includes entire buildings, or smaller-scale destruction with pillars, the floor and interior wall sections.
  • Enhance character abilities with an experience levelling system that ramps up player abilities, weapon power and unlocking content within the game.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really that good, despite a good idea 4 Feb 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
This game offers a very unique approach to the third person realm of action titles....and that is you can never really die. Unfortunately despite this great idea, the execution of it is all flawed by repetitive combat, frustrating controls and an unlikable cast of characters and monsters.
Bryce, the never dying protagonist, and his sidekick Arcadia (she can die) are basically Demon Hunters that work for the Goverment and are tasked with ridding the united states from Demons, which incidentally seem to be less rare than Lord Lucan. They are all over the place.
The game is level based and offers the player a chance to kill as many Demons as possible, tackle the odd environmental puzzle while facing off against staged bosses. This is typical A to B gaming, with an experience system and upgrades as its progression mechanic for the player. Kill things and get experience, collect floating experience orbs etc etc and choose new skills and powers.
There is some fun to be had from this game despite the flaws and this comes in the form of Bryce losing limbs, being blown up and even parading round as just a head as he tries to find the rest of his body. Its true, take enough damage and you lose arms, legs the full monty. Full death is possible and that is if your head is devoured by some of the specialist head-eating monsters that haunt levels. Even then it is still possible to avoid death by completing a quick mini-game that will test your dexterity with the controller.
Now because Bryce is almost invincible he can electrocute himself-which inturn allows him to fire and attack with elemental type damage, he can set himself on fire too and with the same effect. So many good ideas at hand but so badly handled.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seeds of interest methinks 4 July 2013

I very much enjoyed this very odd take on the 3rd person actioner genre.
Rebellion have come up with an idea that manages to take the piss out of the tropes of these kinds of games and still manages to innovate with the core mechanic of body dismemberment/exploding.
Occasionally the game falls into the well worn gooves of other 'shooters' of the type but at a good price i found this fact very easy to soak up.
Even though i dont believe konami will comission a sequel i would really like the concept of Neverdead to be explored again. Pushing the boundries of the immortal precept and having more very silly fun with it. Burnout with bodies? Yeh!

1.0 out of 5 stars Neverdead 13 Mar 2012
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
One of the worst games I have played in recent years, made it through the first 2 chapters before giving up. Repetitive, sub standard gunplay combined with mediocre level design made it impossible to develop any interest in the game. Appears to be trying to position itself as a poor mans Devil may cry but fails badly
