Manufacturer's Description

Over 500 years have passed since a mortal named Bryce Boltzmann endured a life-altering tragedy at the hands of Astaroth, the Demon King. His wife murdered, left defeated and rendered immortal, he now moves through life without aspirations other than where he will find his next drink.

Lending a hand to the clandestine group, the National Anti-Demon Agency (NADA), he pursues redemption through the extermination of demonic forces within the modern day world along with his agency partner, Arcadia.

NeverDead is a third person action/shooter offering a radically new game experience within the genre based on decapitation and regeneration. Lose any limb and still have the ability to endure the fight as death has already passed you by...

Features:

  • Live forever and become immortal through a unique decapitation and regeneration mechanic that offers a different approach to 3rd Person Action gameplay. Detach your arm and use it as an exploding detonation device against the enemy, or tear off your head and use it as a scout within the level design.
  • Fight in critical situations making use of the hero's immortality! Get electrocuted and shoot electric bullets, catch on fire and use your body as a light source, fight enemies in a hurricane or on the highway among passing cars and several other invigorating environments.
  • Combination of various weaponry at your disposal including an array of guns for long-range attacks. Whip out the Butterfly Blade to slash and destroy what is in front of you.
  • Online co-operative and competitive "Challenges" against the enemy or each other. Play with up to 4 players and outwit those you're going against using the decapitation/regeneration elements as strategy.
  • Destroy the world you are in as wide-ranging destructible environments will influence how players take out the enemy. Large-scale destruction includes entire buildings, or smaller-scale destruction with pillars, the floor and interior wall sections.
  • Enhance character abilities with an experience levelling system that ramps up player abilities, weapon power and unlocking content within the game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Head Rolling Fun! 12 Feb 2012

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
It's an interesting twist on a third person hack and slash / shoot em up. The cut scenes are pretty sweet, very nice visuals - there doesn't seem to be any lag, or noticeable changes in the frame rate - it's pretty smooth. The story is a bit odd, but all makes "sense" as you gradually find out more about the main character Bryce - a 500 year old demon slayer... exactly!

Anyway, it's good fun, and worth playing through. Quite funny at times too!

3 out of 5 for me!

3.0 out of 5 stars innovative but lacking a few fundamentals 3 Feb 2012
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
This game brings you a new twist on the third person genre no question about that but does sadly disappoint a few places but first a little bit about story.

The hero Bryce whom you play has the body of a demon but the soul of a human, you are immortal so basically you cant die, you can be chopped to pieces, burned and electrocuted you just regenerate your limbs, Bryce is a demon hunter for hire and he sometimes performs tasks for a demon hunter society named N.A.D.A.

Your partner Arcadia who works for N.A.D.A is however a mortal so through the game you must protect her.

The two of them are definitively what you would call an odd couple a lot of bickering and moaning goes on between these two and some of the lines are okay.

The game is trying to be like devil may cry, third person hack n' slash, but it also adds a new feature to the this genre, during gameplay you will be dismembered ( a lot i might add) there are two ways you can reassemble so to say, if your head is still on your torso you can roll over your limbs to reattach them if you only have your head you have to roll the head over to the torso to reattach it,especially reattaching the head to the torso is a major pain because you have to roll the head where it has to be, and this can sometimes be a major pain depending on the way the torso is lying. You can also regenerate although there is a timer and depending on how many limbs you're missing, the longer it will take to recharge.

Your weapons are guns and a butterfly blade, some mobs are resistant to certain types of damage so depending on what mob you are facing you might need to use melee to defeat it.

and this brings me to the different kinda of mobs there are in this game, I must say i was a bit disappointed since the variation in creatures you face is really limited, I would categorize them in three different categories there are the normal mobs which only require a couple of hits and they are gone, then there are the semi bosses alot harder but not like a boss battle and of course boss creatures.

The skill system is based on xp gathering either through killing mobs or xp pick ups, now the cool thing is after buying these skills you have to equip them, but each skill takes a certain amount of room in your skill section so depending on your choices it varies how many skills and what abilities you have. This might be a pain for some but i think its a cool way you can however change what skills is equipped during gameplay so no worries you won't have to restart the level to change to some better suited skills.

this game is not the best but far from the worst I've tried, there is a lot of frustration getting dismembered all the time and the controls are quite different from what is seen in other games like this, especially the controls takes some getting used to, the controls also seem to be a little sloppy and then suddenly accelerating (for instance when turning the camera). The story telling is also a bit different you start the game knowing almost nothing about the hero but as you progress the first couple of levels you get told more and more about the hero's past and his predicament. The difficulty in the game is easy, normal and hard, i choose normal which was a little challenging i did have my problems a few places.

This is not a must buy if you ask me but it is definitively good enough to be played when nothing else good is out i think its an average game it should in my opinion have a 6/10 score if you ask me, i've seen some of the really bad reviews of this game on IGN and i believe they don't rate the game for what it is worth.

Hope this helps you all out there

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game with few heavy flaws 9 Mar 2012
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I really enjoyed my time with NeverDead but:
Negative Point:
Even if Bryce is technically immortal he can die by losing is severed head in a ''vacuum respawning little demons''. Once it does devour your head,a timing-based minigame pops up that, if successful, throw your head back out into the battle zone if you fail you die. The problem is that you loose your body parts frequently by any little touch from any enemy and it can be really frustrating during boss battles.
The story is not well told and the characters are not that interesting, there're some good ideas but half executed

Positive Point:
Good action, easy to control even when you are dismembered, the graphics are pretty good, the environment look nice and varied, the environment can be broke and cause damage to the enemy a lot of XP to gain and tons of really useful upgrade to unlock that make the game really fun to play.

I liked Neverdead more than Davilmay Cry 4 but less than Shadows of the Damned but it plays better than those two.
