Having spent many years in Calcutta myself, I didn't really need a guidebook, but as my partner was coming along for the first time, I thought it might be a good for him to have one and have an idea of the place beforehand. This was a great little book: well-written, full of insightful, concise and "to the point" information, not only about Calcutta but also other towns and cities in West Bengal for those wishing to travel outside Calcuttta, be it day trips or longer. My only criticism is the lack of photos which would have made this an absolutely perfect guide to the lovely city (inspite of all its faults!) that is Calcutta.
