I wasn't sure about this before release,premo & bumpy are legends from the era of hip hop I grew up on,so I didn't want this to be a let down.It turns out it could be one of the best cd's of the year,classic premo beats & bumpy is a better mc than his "industry shakedown" era.A must for all fans of 90's NY hip hop.

Much like the recent Pete Rock + Smiff'n'Wessun album Monumental, Kolexxxion is a collaboration between two of the 1990s most influential hip hop figures that doesn't quite hit the mark in the way you'd think it would - and once again the problem (for me anyway) is the beats. Unlike Pete Rock who seems to have completely abandoned his signature sound, DJ Premier at least still sounds like DJ Premier, but his oddball choice of samples and frequently clunky beat patterns here left me feeling cold. Only track 5 'Weare At War' made me feel like I was listening to some classic Premo from the 90s, bringing to mind his production masterpiece (arguably) Gang Starr's Moment of Truth. Freddie Foxxx delivers his trademark war-style raps like always, but I expected more from the beats on this. 3 stars
