Fun:
I have previously had the GI Jockey 2008, which I'd really enjoyed and had hoped this new version would be a step on. However, they haven't really changed much, and what they have changed (ie some of the control movements) I don't feel has been an improvement (I used the advanced settings with the balance board). On the plus side they have improved playing one off games in that you get to save scores. Also the tutorials are far easier to get to as they are now in the main menu. I have yet to make work the on-line element which I'd thought would be fun. Whether that this is because the game is new and there is no-one on-line yet or what I don't know.

Like the first GI Jockey, there is quite a long learning curve. It is NOT a game to be quickly picked up in a few minutes - so not really a game for groups. But is very enjoyable once you get the hang of it.

The story element is enjoyable for a sole player, though expect some frustration when you get to the 'training your horse bit' as it's difficult and the instructions leave something to be desired. I think some graphics changes are for the worse. Where you have to exercise the horse before a race on lap times, I'm pretty sure the old graphics had the furlong lengths marked on the track. Now you are supposed to guess where they are via the timer.

All in all it is a tad disappointing that there has been no real new innovations to it that work really well. I would have preferred they left the controls as they were. As in the previous game, the instructions for the more complex elements are non-existent - so expect some initial head banging before you work it out (do a lot of no.2 to restart the training or you will be there forever). However it is still an enjoyable game if you spend the time on it to learn the movements.

Fun:
Procrastinated over whether to buy this. Not exactly into horse racing, but i prefer sport themed games and this is something different from football and cricket! This game is fun. Will keep me amused for a while. As with many Wii games I have played, easy is too easy and normal is too easy, but this didn't stop it being enjoyable. Hard is harder, but not impossible to win. You need a challenge, after all, to make it worthwhile in the longer term. Instructions look daunting but it is nothing like as complicated as it seems.
