I bought this all in one printer after seeing the television adverts promoting cost savings on ink, although I wasn't specifically looking for a new printer, my Hewlett Packard All-in-One was getting a little dated and as HP didn't update the drivers for Windows Vista to incorporate the fax facility and advanced scanning features I thought it was time for a change. While the Kodak is a bit more on the expensive side, I print quite a bit so hope to recoup the additional outlay in savings on consumables and from my use so far this is proving so.

To those in the know, Kodak is a relative newcomer to the all-in-one/printer market however they haven't disappointed! The ink is readily available from a vast amount of stockists in addition to Kodak's own website who have quite a few special offers on and have a wide variety of stock.

First thoughts of the printer is how pleasing it is on the eye, the black looks classy and once you've managed to remove all of the orange tape they use for shipping and get it plugged in, the blue LEDs make it look even better. The printer is on the whole well built although I think that the tray which holds the A4 paper could be a little sturdier. The touch pad on the front of the unit is easy to use and operates well, the LCD screen gives a visual representation of how much ink you have remaining and once connected up also confirms the strength of the wireless signal if you choose this method of connecting the printer. There is a LED on the panel for both WiFi and Ethernet depending on which method you choose (there is of course USB too), Alternatively you can connect a Pictbridge compatible digital camera or print pictures via Bluetooth using the optional dongle (available seperately).

Kodak Inkjet Multifunctional Printer Fax Machine ESP-9

Sounded too good to be true - it is!! Gave it 2 stars for its looks. Good to look at but extremely noisy, constant clunking and whirring. We have still not managed to set the fax to work - in or out which is totally unacceptable as it is for office use. The Kodak email helpline is appalling. We have emailed for help regarding the fax - or lack of ( paperwork with the printer is totally minimal and the online questions and answers do not cover assistance with faxing!!). Despite emailing for help all we have received is more questions - this has been going on for a week, backwards and forwards. Steer well clear is my advice.

Excellent price - swift delivery - overall very good printer but unfortunately cannot send fax's - despite help from Kodak (you get through to South Africa) could not fix and agreed to replace albeit with a refurbished model (yes refurbished) They were told I did not buy as refurbished and as only 2 weeks old expected a new one. Kodak could not deal so back to Amazon who dealt with it all first class (firstly in Manilla and then in Cork - you do get around the world making phone calls today do you not). Amazon have dispatched a new one and allowed extra time to send faulty one back in case delivery of new one was delayed. Well done Amazon

I just installed my (Amazon supplied - good service as usual) Kodak ESP9 printer. At first I tried to install it using an ethernet cable for speed purposes. Three hours later after a chat session with Kodak, it worked. The installation software is unable to cope with Norton 360 firewalls and needs manual intervention to do so. To be fair, it does give you a link to a similar version of Norton.
I then successfully installed it using USB, which was no problem, and also using wifi - just typed in the network key and away it went.
Since then I have tested it fairly exhaustively, and have decided the following:

    1. Software - Right click on a file, select print, and Windows pops up a program that will only print the photo on photo paper from the top tray. If you want to print on normal paper, you have to select the Kodak print program, which is not very good, as it default prints in one corner right up to the edge of the paper. Photo software is primitive and uses 200meg of disk space. Called Easyshare software and Kodak AOI Home centre depending where you look,I tried to download Easyshare software, thinking it was different to what was installed - but it was not, and the installation program crashed, so I had to repair it from add remove programs.

    2. Hardware - very heavy to lift. Plastic average to good, though flimsy in parts. Control panel easy to use and well lit. Paper Out tray is none existant. Don't stand in line with it or you may get cut in half! If you are printing multi-page documents, be prepared to stand at the printer and collect each page by hand - or spend an age collecting them off the floor. I made the mistake of printing part of the the manual from my lap top in a another room - what a paper chase.

I bought this product to replace an older very Vista unfriendly HP (also wireless). I use it for home and home office use. First the pluses: scanner is excellent; fax is good although be careful when it says you can uses VoiP, etc. as can't seem to set this up myself, although it works well on a DECT wireless plug socket; printing is at least the equal of the HP and in fact I think better than my dedicated epson photo printer with the kodak paper and I have had no problems with black and white, etc. on plain paper. Now the niggles - I have a Mac in the home network and often have problems printing from it; the advertised speeds for printe are not true in my experience and quite a bit slower and finally, and this seems true for most wireless printers on a Vista network, it does have to be turned off and on again quite often as it dissapears from the network otherwise I do recommend this product.
