Luckily, that’s exactly where the KODAK PLAYSPORT wants to be. Not only does it shoot glorious Full HD 1080p video and 5MP stills, its pocket-sized casing is waterproof, dustproof and shockproof. And with a touch of the Share button, uploading to your social networks couldn’t be simpler. Capture your high adrenaline moments with the KODAK PLAYSPORT.

Waterproof, Dustproof and Shockproof

But don’t just take our word for it, check PLAYSPORT’s pedigree--its IP68 International Protection (IP) Rating of “6” means that PLAYSPORT is dustproof, and “8” means that it’s waterproof to a maximum of 3m /10ft. PLAYSPORT also passed the MIL-STD-810F shockproof drop test of a 1.5 m (5 ft) fall into a plywood surface.

Selecting underwater mode and underwater white balance on PLAYSPORT will give true-to-life colors in the pool or under the waves.

PLAYSPORT supports two additional HD recording options, plus web ready WVGA, and 5 MP still images at the touch of a button. The choice is yours.

Full HD 1080p The very best image resolution to show on your HDTV using the HDMI cable included.

720p HD at 60 fps The best for fast moving sports and action where you need those extra frames, and great for super slow motion playback.

720p HD Ideal for general recording in high definition.

You can even capture 5MP Still images.

World's only cameras with 3-step sharing

  1. Simply press the KODAK Share button in review mode.
  2. Select your favourite sharing destinations - FACEBOOK, YouTube, FLICKR, TWITTER, KODAK Gallery accounts (pictures only); and e-mail addresses you’ve added to your camera.
  3. Connect PLAYSPORT to your computer with the USB cable provided and your videos and pictures will automatically be transferred to your computer and simultaneously uploaded to all tagged destinations.

It’s that easy! And only KODAK pocket video cameras let you simultaneously share to the largest number of social networks and e-mail addresses automatically when you connect to a PC.

On-camera editing features let you trim video directly on the 2-inch LCD without a computer

Don’t let sun glare ruin your recording

For the ultimate on-camera viewing experience in bright light, turn on the LCD Brightness/Glare Shield feature in Setup. The brightness adjustment will be automatic, and the Glare Shield feature will provide a choice of filters (normal, high contrast, or black and white) to help you better see your subject on the display screen in reflective outdoor situations. These filters are only applied to the display screen, not your footage—so everything you record will look as great as the moment you shot it.

Free HDMI cable to playback on the big screen

Finding your favourite videos on PLAYSPORT is quick and easy thanks to single or multi-up viewing options in review mode. Showing off those videos is just as easy whether you share them immediately on the 5.1 cm (2.0-type) LCD or connect to another viewing device. Using the HDMI port on the side of PLAYSPORT you can connect directly to your HDTV with the supplied HDMI cable for rich Full HD 1080p videos on the big screen. PLAYSPORT offers various playback options including standard speed; fast-forward, rewind and pause, you can even playback in slow motion, down to 1/16th of normal speed to make your footage even more impressive.

Introduce a creative effect for a fun and varied look to your footage

On Camera Editing

You don’t have to wait until you connect to a computer to edit your videos. With on-screen editing you can trim your videos—from the beginning or end —anytime, anywhere. Choose ‘save’ to replace or ‘save as’ to create a new file, press the share button to select sharing destinations, and your videos will be on their way immediately when you connect PLAYSPORT to a computer. On-screen editing also allows you to extract single frames from the video so you can grab that one amazing moment or a cool series of still photos.

Smooth and stable features for sharper videos

Get sharper videos and less blur thanks to built-in digital image stabilization (DIS). PLAYSPORT includes Smart Face tracking technology ensuring that faces are properly exposed automatically. A 4x digital zoom, controlled by the up and down scroll button, makes sure you can get even closer to the action and capture all the finer details. PLAYSPORT even features a macro mode which is activated within the settings menu. To focus on an object between 7-17 cm away, select macro mode for sharp close-ups with incredible results.

Simple one-button operation

KODAK PLAYSPORT is designed so you’ll never miss the moment. Power on and you are immediately ready to record with its ultra simple one-button operation—just press the Record button on the back once to start recording and a second time to stop recording. The built-in mono microphone and speakers will automatically record and playback recorded sound.

Cool capture effects give a new look to your scenes

Looking for variety and creativity? Apply one of the five capture effects: black and white, sepia, normal colour, high saturation with bright, bold colours, or 70’s film with muted colours and a little graininess for a retro look.

Continue to record even more footage by simply swapping memory cards (separately purchased)

Up to 10 hours of recording time

There’s a SD/SDHC card slot which accepts up to a 32GB SD/SDHC card—separately purchased--that’s good for up to 10 hours of video (about 20 min per 1 GB at 720p HD, 30 fps). If you run out of memory on the go you can simply change to a new card. (Class 4 cards or higher are recommended for HD.)

The KODAK PLAYSPORT comes with a powerful internal Li-Ion rechargeable battery, delivering 30% more battery life than the previous generation. Recharge conveniently using the mini-USB cable connected to a computer or the AC adapter connected to a wall socket.

Optional Remote Control

The optional KODAK remote control provides flexibility in both shooting and playback so you can shoot from a distance and even join the action you’re recording. Attach an optional tripod for even more shooting versatility. When you’re ready to playback video and pictures on your TV, you can use the remote control to run the show comfortably from your favourite chair across the room.

Trim your videos and add music, titles or even a voiceover with the supplied software

Software

The first time you connect the PLAYSPORT video camera to your computer, KODAK’s Share Button app (a small software program) will automatically launch and prompt you to add login information for your online sharing sites and email address. After that one-time setup, pictures will automatically be uploaded to the sharing destinations you’ve chosen just as soon as you connect your camera to your computer.

You’ll also be prompted to install ARCSOFT MEDIAIMPRESSION for KODAK Software (PC only) that’s installed on PLAYSPORT and provides additional editing features beyond trimming and single frame extraction that are available directly on PLAYSPORT. If you’re a Mac user, no worries, you can use APPLE iLIFE software for editing. With ARCSOFT MEDIAIMPRESSION for KODAK Software you can use the ‘movie maker’ feature to edit clips, add text screens for titles at the beginning and credits at the end of a movie, sequence a number of clips to tell your story, add a voice-over to narrate your footage, add pictures and music to make cool mash-ups, and use EasyPrint to print jpgs on your printer. You can also change resolution, or use the media converter to change file format, including AVI, and transcode your videos for viewing on other common devices like an iPOD or KODAK picture frame—even burn DVD’s (including BLU-RAY-compatible format) for viewing on TV and archiving.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good choice 7 April 2011
Colour Name:Black
i own the zx3. so when kodak said they where bringing out another waterproof camera with macro i couldnt wait to see what it was like.
it is alot like all the other kodak camcorders. it records in the following:
WVGA, 720p 30 and 60 FPS, 1080p
it also has a 5 megapixel camera option on it.
it has 4 extra colour effects which are good if the mood strikes.
normal, High Saturation, 70's film, Black and white and Sepia
it also has the glare shield which the zx3 has. the difference with the zx5 is it has a sensor which change's the screen automaticaly. i have tried it and it works very well.
i found the low light to be better than the zx3. the 60fps low light was really good.
it has an internal battery which some people dont like. i thought it would be a problem to but after having the zx5 for nearly a week i havent even noticed the internal battery.
you can record 2 hours and 35 mins in 720p at 30fps. which is better than the zx3.
you can edit the video on the camera its self and then press the share button to upload it on to facebook, youtube and other sites. you also have the arcsoft software that comes with the camera.
the zx5 has water correction which i would ashume works the same as the H20 setting on the zx3. the underwater video is a lot better than the zx3. it is very clear and the autofocus works very well underwater.
here is some underwater tests using both cameras:

[...]

[...]
some people have said about the zx5 having bad audio. i have had a lot of pocket HD camcorders and some of them had bad sound others have had really good sound. to me the sound is ok. i would admit that the zx3 has slightly better sound but to me the zx5's sound is ok.
here is a sound test which was done. i dont think the sound is that bad.

[...]
kodak have said that the zx3 will be discountinued soon. which means that the zx5 will take its place. i think that the zx5 has a lot to offer. the zx3 has some huge shoes to fill but it also has had its issues to.
the only issues i have found so far are that there is a background noise when using the camera underwater. also sometimes when you move the camera infront of the sun you get a bronze flash on the screen. some times the autofocus tries to focus behind you when there is nothing there. its not as bad as the sony bloggie cm5 but it is there.
i do like the zx5 and i have really enjoyed using it. i dont find the sound an issue and having used the zx5 for nearly a week i havent had any problems with the internal battey.
at the end of the day you have to make up your mind what you want and what camcorder fits those needs.
here are some pros and cons for the zx3 and zx5:
ZX3 Pros:

Cheaper. better sound. removable battery.

Cons:

soon to be discontinued. zoom has problem. low light is grainy. some have green pixels in low light. low light not so good. records 1 hour and 20mins per charge

ZX5 Pros:

has macro. has auto focus. better underwater video capture. battery records 2 and a half hours per charge. zoom is better. video quality is better. has special colour effects. low light is better. its dust proof, water proof and shock proof.

Cons:

slight background noise when underwater. bronze flash sometimes on sunny days. autofocus can sometimes jump. which means it goes out of focus for a couple of seconds.

so there you go. i really like my zx5 and i think i will be using it alot more than the old zx3. i hope this has helped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beware of Class of SDHC Memory Cards you buy. 14 April 2011
By Karen
Colour Name:Black
Fantastic Video Camera but does not work with Class 10 SDHC Memory Cards. After frustrating time on the Phone to Kodak they admitted that it does not work with Class 10 SDHC Cards. Firmware upgrade may resolve this issue later when its available. Their documentation states Class 4 or higher, in the enclosed documentation and on their website, as class 10 is higher than class 4 I assumed that it would be OK. But evidently not. Kodak say that it will work with Class 6 and 8 with no known issues. Thought I would play safe and have purchased 2 off 16G Class 4 Cards and they work fine. Each card gives just over 2.5 hrs of 1080p video. Great little Video Camera but just be aware of the SDHC Card issues mentioned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kodak Playsport 29 May 2011
By Barbara
Colour Name:Black
Love the convenience of this lightweight, compact, camera. Not so keen on having to go on line for more then the basic user instructions despite the booklet being almost half inch think but that is because in several different languages. Purchased close to holiday so had no time to go in line and whilst away unable to find out why photographs taken in low light levels came out very dark, thought camera compensated for low light levels and could not find on Settings if there should be flash or not. The same goes for photos taken in sunlight, basic instruction gave impression would cope with sunlight but did not. Have still to find out, on line, what we are doing wrong.
