Kodak printing technology.

High-quality photos and documents with KODACOLOR technology

KODACOLOR technology is a revolutionary technology that combines a high nozzle density printhead and pigmented inks with precision dual drop placement. Together with our instant dry papers and high speed print system you get brilliant, crisp documents and vivid photos that last a lifetime. And all this for up to 50% less than other inkjet systems*.

At its most basic, a print is literally ink on paper. Our thermal inkjet printhead has 3,840 nozzles. All those nozzles deliver fast, precise, high-density printing. Plus, our printhead is a permanent part of the printer. Not part of the ink cartridge, like most other inkjets. So not only do you have a precisely tuned system—and quality prints—you only have to pay for it once.

What makes it all work? Over a hundred years of Kodak image science. This includes advanced color management for a wider color gamut, real-life tones, and brilliant colors. It includes algorithms in the printer and in the All-In-One Printer software. All of this combines to give you crisp, clear documents and Kodak lab-quality prints at home.

The only printer ink triple 5 star rated for print quality

Most consumer inkjet printers use dyes, but Kodak printers use patented pigment-based inks that deliver incredible print quality, ‘best-in-class’ print permanence of 120+ years** and prints that dry instantly.

In the latest Which Test Lab report on printer ink (July 2011) Kodak was the only printer ink awarded five out of five star ratings in all three categories for print quality; text print quality, photo print quality and water resistance. The same Which report highlighted Kodak as the lowest cost printer ink of any printer manufacturer on test.

The Kodak Hero 5.1 All-In-One Printer works with our expanded line of Kodak pigment-based 30 Series Inks. Featuring patented pigmented-ink, ensures Kodak lab-quality photos and documents that last a lifetime, ideal for everyday printing. Print crisp, sharp, black and colour documents thanks to instant drying which resist smudges and smears. Kodak offers a range of ink cartridges that suit the way you print.

Fed up with expensive printer ink?

When you buy a printer, price will often be a major factor. But with expensive replacement ink cartridges, the total cost is not always clear – and high running costs can come as a bit of a shock later on. Kodak All-In-One Printers are different. You pay a little more for the printer but much less for the ink so now you can afford to print as much as you like.

Don’t just take our word for it, all testing was done independently to ISO standards by QualityLogic, who have provided testing services for the printing industry for over 20 years. QualityLogic are a world-leading expert in printer testing and were integral in developing the international standard (ISO) for measuring print cartridge performance. So say goodbye to overpriced ink and enjoy Kodak’s low-cost, high quality pigment-ink cartridges that give you all the bright colours and sharp text you’d expect for just a fraction of the price.

  • Take one picture. Within 20 seconds, move the camera 3 in. (75mm) to the right without changing the camera angle, and take a second picture.
  • Save the pictures to your computer and use Home Center Software to create and print 3D pictures—simply follow the on-screen instructions.

I am by no means a computer savvy person. I normally renew my computer and associated equipment every four years so that should give you some indication of the level of skill and knowlege I have when it comes to computing. I guess I would update my equipment more often as I like new technology but it's the thought of having to set up and familiarize myself with new equipment that puts me off.

Today is the end of another four year cycle and with new laptop already up and running, it was time for a new printer. Having researched the market very briefly, I make no secret that the cheap ink was my main reason for buying this particular model. I agree with some reviews that the build quality is probably not in the same league as Canon or Epson but for the price I cannot complain.

I have read some of the reviews about the set up and I must say I am a bit surprised that some, whom I would guess are far more computer savvy than me have found it problematic? I was up and running in about 10 minutes. For me the set up of any computer related kit is the most anxiety provoking part of the process but with the Kodak Hero it was simplicity itself. I agree with another reviewer that the instructions are not exactly wordy but the diagrams are very detailed and there is also instructions that are easy to follow on the built in screen.

The printer head clips in easily and so does the cartridges. A reviewer has remarked about the fragility of the arm that supports the upper half of the printer when inserting the cartridges. Trust me, it is fine and perfectly formed for the job. You would have to be pretty heavy handed to cause any serious damage, so I would totally disregard any concerns you may have about the arm.

I purchased the Kodak Hero because it is wi-fi and it was recommended to me, the inks seem to be cheaper than the Epson that I used to have although i cannot say by how much as i have not used it very much. I am very impressed with the quality of the printing, photos are excellent. the printer is quite noisey in during start up, but once running it is fine. For a reasonably priced printer with much cheaper inks it is undoubtedly best value.

I must admit my first impressions of the printer are very good.

I personally could not see a problem with the arm that props open the lid whilst changing the cartridges, (this works as the arm would on the bonnet of your car). I found this useful, (just handle it carefully). I do agree with the the previous reviewer on fitting the ink cartridges as you effectively have to fit the print head yourself and then load the cartridges. I was a little concerned that if I was too heavy handed these pieces might break. However, everything clicked into place, (again just be careful).

Once this was all done the system was pretty easy to set up. This is my first WiFi printer and I mistakenly thought I would need to connect direct to my computer. Not so!! It connects via your Broadband hub, which itself is not a problem, just make sure you have your hub security code available. I was up and running in about 15 minutes. The printer came with three 6" x 4" Kodak photo paper sheets, (highest paper spec of course!!!). I must say that I was very impressed with the photos this produced. The best quality print I've seen of any home printer (photo's or documents). The inks are only £20 to replace in total, so seemingly very cheap indeed.

Why only 4 stars? Well I'm not sure how many photos I will get out of the cartridges and only time will tell. Whilst, I am very impressed with the quality of the photo's, there is still a niggling thought in the back of my mind that it would be cheaper to print photo's at boots etc.

Nevertheless, if you do a lot of printing at home I really would recommend this printer. Kodak are certainly moving in the right direction.

Have literally just put together my kodak hero 5.1 and my first impressions are that this is a good purchase. Set-up was pretty straight forward and took about 15 minutes to get out of the box, install and print my first photos. Picture quality of the photos is also very good, with excellent colour reproduction. All-in-all a very good printer and looking forward to using it more over the coming months. Having debated over whether to purchase a cannon pixma or a epson, the decision to try the kodak is looking to be a wise one.

Are printers now in the top ten most weary-inducing products to purchase? They are reliably unreliable, so buying one every two or three years now seems unavoidable. And it goes without saying they always break on a Friday evening just as you hit print on that job application or vital document that you must submit for Monday.

So one always finds oneself speed-reading Amazon reviews late at night for products that appear to do so much for the price it's a wonder they don't claim to print by telepathy too. And yet ratings all cluster around the 2 to 3 star area because, infallibly, half the reviewers have found that the thing does indeed print telepathically while using almost no ink and having the build quality of a Bentley; while the other half are writing their review on a mobile device while transporting their new purchase straight to the local municipal dump.

So, as you may be able to discern, I purchased this printer more in hope than expectation - the hope in this case being that if the damn thing happened to work, I'd get my money back in saved ink costs within a year.

I tried to get myself into a zen state by setting aside a whole morning of holiday, while the kids were in school, so that I could try to set it up, fail, swear, phone help lines, try again, settle for using USB rather than Wi-Fi, etc.

In fact the journey from box opening to printed document was just 30 minutes - leaving me with the rest of morning to fail at something else, but at least with the knowldge I had one triumph in the bank.

The printer comes with the usual wordless instructions - relying on the communicative power of illustration.
