Great value camera with powerful 5x wide angle zoom lens
Sharing pictures has never been easier than with the KODAK EASYSHARE M575 Digital Camera. The M575 Digital Camera puts the power of photography in the palm of your hand with 14 MP, and a 5X SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIOGON wide-angle (28 mm) zoom lens in a stylish compact body less than 1.8 cm thick. The 5X wide angle zoom lens delivers amazing flexibility allowing you to both shoot distant objects, filling the frame with just the part of the scene you want, and to capture wide angle views useful when taking pictures of groups indoors in tight spaces and capturing the drama of a spectacular horizontal landscape or vertical subject like a skyscraper or waterfall. In addition to the professional quality optics in the SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIOGON lens, the M575 features optical image stabilization which reduces blur caused by subject movement or fast-action situations and automatically minimizes the effects of camera shake to deliver clearer, sharper pictures. And for those really dramatic vistas, select Panorama mode and the camera automatically stitches together up to 3 pictures for a seamless stunning panoramic photo. The M575 Digital Camera also has a large 3” (7.6 cm) bright LCD so you can enjoy reviewing your pictures right on the camera and HD video recording at 720p@ 30 fps so you can capture high quality movie clip too. Power comes from a Li-Ion rechargeable battery with higher voltage and energy capacity for excellent performance, and in-camera re-charging using the included cable and AC adapter is quick and convenient. All these features in a compact body that’s less than 1.8 cm thick is very impressive, but it’s still the ease of sharing pictures that sets this camera apart.

One button upload. View larger.
One-button upload to online sites such as FACEBOOK and FLICKR and email.
You’re out snapping pictures with friends and want to share them online as soon as you get home. That’s a snap with KODAK’s one-button upload. In review mode just press the Share button to select your sharing destinations - YouTube, FACEBOOK, FLICKR, and KODAK Gallery sites; e-mail, and KODAK PULSE Digital Frame, too. When you connect your camera to your computer with the USB cable provided; your pictures and videos will automatically be transferred to your computer and uploaded to all tagged destinations. It’s that easy. The first time you connect the M575 Digital Camera to your computer, Kodak’s Share Button app (a small software program) will launch and prompt you to add login information for your online sharing sites. After that one time setup, uploads to your tagged sharing destinations is executed automatically when you connect your camera.

Face recognition. View larger.
Face Recognition makes finding pictures easy
If you’ve ever scrolled through hundreds of pictures on your camera looking for just one picture in particular, Kodak’s face recognition feature is just what you need. It’s powerful and easy to use. Using the on-camera keyboard, enter the name of any face detected during picture taking — up to 5 different people in a single picture. The next time a picture of a tagged person is taken; the camera will automatically recognize their face and assign the right name to it. A maximum of 20 different people can be added to the on-camera face registry, and up to five different poses of each person are used to increase the accuracy of their facial recognition. Once a person is recognized by facial recognition, its super quick and easy to search by name to find all the pictures of that person whenever you want.

Better pictures - automatically. View larger.
Better pictures automatically
Kodak's Smart Capture feature allows you to become a better photographer in just about any environment by applying three automatic split-second processes: Intelligent scene detection - detects and analyzes the type of scene; Intelligent capture control—automatically sets camera settings including exposure, focus and ISO for clear, sharp pictures even in low light and challenging situations; and Intelligent image processing — reduces noise and clears up dark shadows for vibrant, crisp details and true-to-life colors. KODAK PERFECT TOUCH Technology is automatically applied in Smart capture mode to provide rich detail even in dark shadows for vivid colors and richer details, and can also be applied manually as an edit tool to pictures taken in Program and Scene modes. With Smart Capture you’ll get better pictures automatically in just about any lighting condition without the worry of adjusting camera settings. With Smart Capture you’ll get better pictures automatically in just about any lighting condition without the worry of adjusting camera settings.

True HD quality pictures
The 14 MP M575 Digital Camera can capture pictures that can make stunning prints up to 30 × 40 in. Don’t want prints that large? Then you have plenty of room to crop and enlarge and still have great picture quality in smaller format prints. You’ll also have plenty of resolution for viewing your pictures in high definition on an HDTV or other HD devices. Select the 16:9 format on the M575 Digital Camera and your pictures will perfectly fill an HDTV screen without cropping or stretching. HD Video-Capture video at HD (1280 × 720) @ 30 fps or VGA (640 × 480) at 30 fps in QUICKTIME Motion jpeg with audio during recording and playback, and on-camera editing - trim the ends and even save a single frame. HD single frames are the perfect size to email and even make small prints. Create an action print of up to 9 video frames on one 4x6 in. print to tell the story of your video in print.

Purchased this camera for our daughter. Some individuals have commented re: the fact that the camera keeps reverting back to smart mode. This is not a fault, but an intentional feature, which Kodak has implemented as part of the design. Why? Because for most people the smart mode gives the most impressive results, and the best pictures are those that are not posed for, but usually moments that have to be captured very quickly i.e. as soon as the camera is turned on. Hope that makes sense!

Anyhow, the camera provides excellent pictures, is easy to use and is extremely robust. It had its first test on a holiday to Portugal. Unfortunately our daughter dropped it to the cobbled street on the first day. As you can imagine it made a heck of a noise, the battery compartment broke open, and the battery went flying across the road. She could not have dropped it harder if she had tried. Guess what, put the battery back in, closed the hinged sliding door (which had not broken, just come open), and the camera worked fine. Not many electronic devices would have withstood such a fall to the floor. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

Quick story. I was asked if I rated Kodak digital cameras. I said nope, get one of the bigger names. That person ignored my advice since she liked the redish colour of the camera - some great reason to buy a camera I know. Well I eat my words. The camera was reduced in price and it is excellent value for money. Over 12 meg images, raw, jpeg, video and so easy to use. One other thing the panoramic facility is excellent. Its so easy to use.

I see that another reviewer moans about not being able to see the display in sunlight - well thats a problem with most cameras but for this price I am not going to worry. Now I am about to buy a Leica X1 or should I try the Kodak? Just kidding - Leica for me very day but I am knocked out on the value of this excellent Kodak camera.

5 stars give but one thing that does irritate me - why no sd card with the camera. Its like buying a torch without batteries. Luckily my friend realised that there was no sd card in it and bought one from Boots (Now come on who would you wait 24 hours for Amazon to deliver at a lower price?)

Camera wise I cant fault it. I have had a series of Easyshare cameras and for taking photos and video they are always reliable.

But I have continued reservations on some design issues. This seems to happen time and time again on Easyshare models.

The first is the slide door which holds both the battery and the sd card. As with previous models it is on the bottom of the camera, it is not very secure and has a tendency to come open easily. This could give rise to the 'door' snapping off if you don't notice it has opened in your bag. I don't like combined SD and battery compartments anyway. SD slot should be safely on the side. Battery compartment should be a secure latch type system on the bottom of the camera.

It's not rocket science Kodak the current slide door is the camera weak spot.

A minor gripe is that in dark situations I would like to be easily able to feel by touch the take photo button. I take photos in theatres and in that kind of lighting it is hard to identify the whereabouts of any buttons on the top of the camera. Yes the current button design is sleek and modern but I'd rather have practical first design second.

Come on Kodak do you survey your users and more importantly, if you do, do you act on the common sense issues raised?
