Manufacturer's Description

Sharing your pictures just got simpler!

Sharing pictures has never been easier than with the great value 14 MP, 3X optical zoom KODAK EASYSHARE C183 Digital Camera.

The C183 has a 3” (7.6 cm) bright LCD so you can enjoy reviewing your pictures and video right on the camera’s large screen. The 3x optical zoom lens zooms in close and blur reduction reduces blur caused by subject movement or fast-action situations and automatically minimizes the effects of camera shake to deliver clearer, sharper pictures. When taking pictures of friends and family, Kodak face detection technology locates up to 5 faces and automatically adjusts the camera settings to ensure you always get the best possible shot; and Kodak’s face recognition feature makes it super quick and easy to tag and search your pictures by name. All these features at such an affordable price is very impressive, but it’s still the ease of sharing pictures that sets this camera apart.

One-button upload to online sites such as FACEBOOK and FLICKR, and email.

Everyone enjoys sharing their latest pictures with friends and family online but its often so complicated the pictures end up just staying on the camera! The new Kodak share button makes sharing your pictures super easy.

You’re out snapping pictures with friends and want to share them online as soon as you get home. In review mode just press the KODAK Share button to select your choice of sharing destinations - your FACEBOOK, YouTube, FLICKR or KODAK Gallery accounts or e-mail addresses you’ve added to your camera. You can select a KODAK PULSE Digital Frame too. When you get home simply connect your camera to your computer with the USB cable provided and your pictures and videos will automatically be transferred to your computer and uploaded to all tagged destinations. It’s that easy.

The first time you connect the C183 Digital Camera to your computer, KODAK’s Share Button app (a small software program) will launch and prompt you to add login information for your online sharing sites and email address. After that one time setup, photos will be uploaded to the sharing destinations you’ve chosen automatically just as soon as you connect your camera to your computer.

Better pictures automatically with Kodak Smart Capture

When taking pictures, wouldn’t you like to save time and concentrate on composing the picture to capture that perfect moment without worrying about adjusting camera settings? Unfortunately, with “normal” auto modes, this sometimes means you will be disappointed with the result. We’ve all taken pictures of scenes that looked great through the human eye but not so good on the camera. A typical example would be a picture of a subject with a bright background. In these backlit situations the background looks good, but the subject—the most important part of the picture - is often too dark. KODAK's Smart Capture feature allows you to become a better photographer in just about any environment by automatically applying three split-second processes to improve your pictures without you having to adjust any settings:

  1. Intelligent scene detection detects and analyzes the characteristics of scene
  2. Intelligent capture control then automatically sets camera settings including exposure, focus and ISO for clear, sharp pictures even in low light and challenging situations
  3. Intelligent image processing enhances the final result in the processing stage by reducing noise and clearing up dark shadows for vibrant, crisp details and true-to-life colors.

So with Smart Capture you’ll get better pictures automatically in just about any lighting condition without the worry of adjusting camera settings. You just press the button and we do the rest!

Face Recognition makes finding pictures easy

If you’ve ever scrolled through hundreds of pictures on your camera looking for just one picture in particular, Kodak’s face recognition feature is just what you need. It’s powerful and easy to use. Using the on-camera keyboard, enter the name of any face detected during picture taking—up to 5 different people in a single picture. The next time a picture of a tagged person is taken; the camera will automatically recognize their face and assign the right name to it. A maximum of 20 different people can be added to the on-camera face registry, and up to five different poses of each person are used to increase the accuracy of their facial recognition. Once a person is recognized by facial recognition, its super quick and easy to search by name to find all the pictures of that person whenever you want.

Good value 18 Sep 2010
By Sid Nuncius HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER
Colour Name:Black|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I think this is a very good little camera, especially at this price. I'm not a photographic expert, but I take a lot of pictures for everyday use and I wanted something small and simple to use which takes good quality snapshots. This seems to be it.

The camera is very compact - roughly 10cm x 6.5cm x 2.5cm at its thickest - but has a good-sized screen which makes viewing extremely clear. The setup was very simple. (The manual provided does give you what you need for setting up but it is basic in the extreme on everything else. There is an excellent, easily downloadable on-line extended manual which was very clear and helpful for the non-technical user like me.) Connecting to the computer was also very straightforward, and the software installed itself quickly and with no fuss. The "share" feature isn't something I use, but seems simple and may be of value to others.

The photos themselves are good quality at 14 megapixels, and the camera's software does a very good job of autofocus and light adjustment: I have been very pleased with the results so far. The camera has helpful software for locating photos easily and some editing features. I prefer to edit on my computer and so don't use them much but they will probably be useful to a lot of users.

Do be aware that you may need to buy some extras. Kodak do not supply a memory card with the camera so you need to buy an SD or SDHC card separately. (This isn't a great expense - my 4GB SDHC card holds nearly 1500 photos and cost well under seven quid SanDisk 4GB SDHC Secure Digital Card). Also, this model requires 2xAA batteries. Kodak supply a pair with the camera to get you started, but I'd strongly recommend using rechargeables. There is no facility to plug in the camera to recharge them, so you would need a charger, too. Also, there is no case of any kind with the camera and you may need to buy one of these as well. None of this costs all that much, but you may like to know in advance.

All in all, I'm very pleased with this little camera and would recommend it as a good quality, reasonably priced camera for everyday use.

Good cheap compact 23 Sep 2010
By SC Dog VINE™ VOICE
Colour Name:Black|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
The Kodak EasyShare C183 camera boasts some impressive spec; 14 MPs, large screen, Smart Capture and high ISO and a very impressive price.

The images taken are not professional photographer quality, but they are not expected to be. This camera is designed to be a compact carry-around for day and nights out where you don't want to focus on setting complicated settings but just want to point and shoot, and for this it does well.

The camera struggles with some auto-settings, for example shooting a bright sky and dark buildings will lose some detail in both, but with out looking directly at a bright light the auto-exposure works well and you can get some vivid colour photos.

Face recognition technology attempts to locate people's faces in the frame to focus on them however it sometimes struggles or mistakes inanimate objects for people! However generally it works very well and results in well focused portraits. Together with the Smart Capture technology you can get some lovely photos of people without much effort on your part.

It has 3x optical zoom and automatically switches into macro mode (for close ups) when needed, again saving those without much knowledge of photography the necessity of playing with complicated settings.

The only downsides I can think of are: it does not come with even a small memory card and therefore you are limited to about 12 photos until you buy one. It also eats through battery power quite quickly, especially on video mode, and although they are AA batteries and so easily replaced I did find I hit 40% power after about 40 photos.

The biggest issue is that it does not allow you to fine-tune settings as some may like. This is not a great surprise considering the price and the market it is aimed at, however if you are looking to buy a cheap camera to learn photography with you may wish to invest your money in a slightly more expensive camera which allows you control over aperture, exposure, etc. This camera is designed for you to give up control to the on-board computer.

To sum up this is a brilliant camera to carry around and use on informal occasions or to use of candid shots. It lacks fine control but does a good job of automatically adjusting to different scenarios, for example night and day. If you need a well made, easy to use, simple camera I definitely recommend it.

I've had this camera since the 19th November 2010 and over all I am quite pleased with it. I got it because it would be more suitable for sticking in my pocket and taking to things like weddings and so on compaired to my canon sx20is. Also since I am into birding I thought that it would be great to attach to my spotting scope so I can do a bit of digiscoping(although I haven't tried it for this purpose yet).

I do however have a couple of issues with it. Firstly I also ordered a 8gb sdhc card with this card but unfortunately this has yet to arrive. Thankfully I have been able to use the 4gb one from my canon. I will use the 8gb one in my canon when I eventually get it.

The other main problem is the dreadful amount of battery power this small camera consumes. As I said I got this camera on the 19th and have only taken 34 test pictures and have used 4 batteries already. I will change these to the uniross rechargeables that I previously got from Amazon and try these. If these fail then this will be a disapointing purchase even though it was less than £50 for a 14mp camera.
