Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Sharing your pictures just got simpler!

Sharing pictures has never been easier than with the 10 MP, 3X optical zoom KODAK EASYSHARE C142 Digital Camera.

The C142 has a 2.5” (6.4 cm) bright LCD so you can enjoy reviewing your pictures and video right on the camera. The 3x optical zoom lens zooms in close and blur reduction reduces blur caused by subject movement or fast-action situations and automatically minimizes the effects of camera shake to deliver clearer, sharper pictures. And when taking photos of friends and family, Kodak face detection technology locates up to 5 faces and automatically adjusts the camera settings to ensure you always get the best possible shot. All these features at such an affordable price is very impressive, but it’s still the ease of sharing pictures that sets this camera apart.

One-button upload to online sites such as FACEBOOK and FLICKR, and email.

You’re out snapping pictures with friends and want to share them online as soon as you get home. That’s a snap with KODAK’s one-button upload. In review mode just press the Share button to select your sharing destinations - YouTube, FACEBOOK, FLICKR, and KODAK Gallery sites; e-mail, and KODAK PULSE Digital Frame, too. When you connect your camera to your computer with the USB cable provided; your pictures and videos will automatically be transferred to your computer and uploaded to all tagged destinations. It’s that easy. The first time you connect the C142 Digital Camera to your computer, Kodak’s Share Button app (a small software program) will launch and prompt you to add login information for your online sharing sites. After that one time setup, uploads to your tagged sharing destinations is executed automatically when you connect your camera.

Better pictures automatically.

Kodak's Smart Capture feature allows you to become a better photographer in just about any environment by applying three automatic split-second processes: Intelligent scene detection - detects and analyzes the type of scene; Intelligent capture control — automatically sets camera settings including exposure, focus and ISO for clear, sharp pictures even in low light and challenging situations; and Intelligent image processing — reduces noise and clears up dark shadows for vibrant, crisp details and true-to-life colors. KODAK PERFECT TOUCH Technology is automatically applied in Smart capture mode to provide rich detail even in dark shadows for vivid colors and richer details, and can also be applied manually as an edit tool to pictures taken in Program and Scene modes. With Smart Capture you’ll get better pictures automatically in just about any lighting condition without the worry of adjusting camera settings.

This camera is certainly marketed as a budget-end camera yet has some very desirable facilities that makes it appealing to young and old alike.

Firstly, it's not so stupidly small that an adults hands swamp it. Neither is it particularly bulky nor heavy. Feels nice and comfortable in my hands.

The screen is large, bright and sharp. It doesn't have the touch-screen capabilities of more expensive cameras but frankly I never missed that here.

Whilst 10 mega-pixels might be seen as over-kill for a snap-shot style camera it did produce some very sharp and details photos; its Achilles heel is that it doesn't perform brilliantly in low light but then I didn't expect it to. Manually setting the ISO rating down a tad (requiring longer exposures in low-light conditions) more-or-less eliminates the "noise" speckling if you leave the camera doing its own thing in low light.

Face recognition was an unexpected surprise on a budget camera and worked very well. All my person centric photos were in focus.

One default settings that was changed was the auto-focus: by default it continually keeps trying to auto-focus which can use battery power. I changed it so that you have to partially press the shutter to make it focus. Kids though, would probably appreciate the auto-focussing as all they need to do then is press the shutter.

Kodak make a great deal about easy it is to upload to Facebook and the like but I never tried this. Printing to a printer (with or without a dock or Pictbridge) worked well though.

In summary, this is brilliant bit of kit which does so much more than what the price would suggest. Recommended.

Edit: post a trip to Central America (Costa Rica) in 2011 this proved many times over that my original review was spot on and didn't reveal all the quality that camera gives in its picturs. By the way, the built in video feature (for very short movies such as a sloth moving through the trees - WITH sound) was absolutely fantastic.

    A great little camera 10 Aug 2010

    Colour Name:Silver|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Over the summer holidays I have given this camera to my eleven year old daughter to road test for me. We have been looking for an easy to use digital camera for her for some time and this seemed to fit the bill. We are thrilled with the result. In the space of an hour she had already progressed from taking standard photographs to being able to use the zoom properly and also taking film footage. The zoom function is particularly intuitive as instead of a button which you have to click repeatedly, it is activated by a small sliding handle on the button you use to take the actual photograph.

The camera is light and compact with a good sized screen which allows you to see clearly exactly what you are doing. It is easy to upload the pictures onto a p.c. with the lead provided. It has withstood the rigours of a child using it for nearly three weeks now and has come to no harm and I highly recommend it to anyone thinking of getting it.

Now here you have a techie item being reviewed by the world's greatest mechanical klutz. I am short-sighted, hamfisted and hopeless at reading manuals. So the fact that, within hours of getting this camera, I had successfully taken photos and uploaded them to my PC, plus set up the sharing software, strikes me as pretty impressive for the product.

The camera has all the usual stuff - zoom, flash - it can take videos though I haven't yet asked it to, and if you download the software it'll share photos to places like Facebook with one click for you. It did take me a while to work out where all the buttons were, not so much because of any difficulty with the instructions as because I needed a magnifying glass to locate the buttons. Most people with less than perfect eyes would, but that's normal nowadays, alas.

On a gloomy, misty day it took very acceptable photos, despite the fact that I'm not all that good with cameras that don't have a viewfinder - it's one of those that you don't hold tightly to your eye and I always find it hard to keep them still, but again that's normal these days. Setting up the software wasn't a problem, nor were the upload instructions. So far, I'm impressed. But you will need a memory card, of course - its internal memory will only stretch to 4 photos.

What would make me give it 5 stars rather than 4? Why, if the manufacturer were generous enough to print out the flaming manual, rather than expecting you to look it up online or print out the 60-odd pages yourself. As usual, there's only the basics provided in print form, which means it'll be a long time before I get around to using any fancy stuff. I do hate this modern meanness about manuals.
