Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Hotel Giant is the latest in a long line of "fly on the wall" sims. This time you have to create the perfect hotel within your budget, monitor your customers' wishes and complaints, make sure that your staff provide maximum service and rake in enough profit to expand your empire. You can do this through any of the three campaigns provided: the tutorial, which takes you through the basics of hotel management; the Hotel Giant campaign, which takes you from buffoon to tycoon in 18 stages; or the random campaign, which is a series of stand-alone challenges to test your mettle. There is also a kind of sandbox mode that lets you set your own goals and objectives.

First, choose where to build your five-star establishment, urban, suburban or resort locales. This choice will govern the kind of facilities that you offer in your hotel. Urban areas will need better business facilities, whereas resort locations will need more fun in the sun. Each hotel has a specific number of floors and it's up to you to decide how to kit them out; options include the necessary, such as guest rooms and a lobby area, to the optional, such as games rooms and a library.

Design aspects aside, the most important part of Hotel Giant is the customer service. Once you have opened your doors to Joe public, you can "spy" on your residents to see what the like and dislike about your hotel in an effort to improve their experience. The way you do this is via a follow-cam, which allows you to stalk your customers to see which areas of the hotel, they most like frequenting. In practice, though your sims tend to behave in rather eccentric ways and you can find yourself following an obsessive compulsive who spends their entire stay at the hotel repeatedly taking showers.

Moreover, the goals are a tad on the uninspiring side; unlike other sims such as Theme Hospital, where the missions are quirky and engaging, Hotel Giant errs on the side of the business sim. This is still an entertaining and engaging sim, however, and might tempt people away from Maxis' Sims franchise--even if it is just until the next add-on pack is released. --Emma Turner

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like The Sims, you'll love this!, 20 Jun 2002
This review is from: Hotel Giant (Video Game)
Hotel Giant is an incredibly brilliant game, almost as brilliant as The Sims. It is a mixture between The Sims and Theme Hopsital, only it's a hotel. You start off with the basic tutorials, but I advise not to do all of them, you only need to master the basics to get playing. Then you can build your own hotel anywhere in the world, there are lots of hotels to chose from, so you'll always find a hotel to suit you. Playing a random game is the best way to experience hotel giant, you can set your own goals and really get to master all the tools. When you've finished decorating your hotel, you can open it and watch the guests pour in! The great thing is, you never seem to run out of money, so you needn't worry about finding cheats fro the game. You can take photos, and even see the guests at eye level and follow them around! The graphics are excellent, they are similar to The Sims, but you can zoom in and really see everything close up, even the colour of the spots on your guests' faces. This is a superb game and it is really worth the money, so if you're wondering whether to buy it, I advise you to buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hotel Giant - Giant or Tiny?, 24 Jun 2002
This review is from: Hotel Giant (Video Game)
This game puts you in the manager position of a hotel company and you are supposed to use all your knowlrdge and hotel items to build the perfect hotel. There are a lot of cool items to choose from and it is easy to move them around. Building rooms is easy too with a drag and click movement. You can also decorate your hotel in different styles very quickly and effectivley. But you would think that with so many rooms to build in a hotel it would take agaes to do even 1 floor. But with the copy and paste system in Hotel Giant it is quick and easy to build a hotel.

The good thing about Hotel Giant is that you dont simply build bedrooms, bathrooms and a lobby, you can build many interesting lesuire facillities such as; a massage palour, a bar, a resturant, a swimming pool , a gym and loads more! There are also diferrent kinds of items for example if you wanted to place a TV in a room you would get to choose from about 15! Ranging from inches colour and many more.

You can hire staff fire staff and even improve their quality of work. You can easilly interact with them and improove their experience of the job. You can see many of their statistics and information just like with your quests.
You can see what they like and what they dislike about your hotel and you can use that information to build a better hotel.

Movment is easy around the hotel and you get to see an inside and outside view of your hotel. But some of the views dont sometimes get what you want to see ie: you have to move around a lot.

The speed of the game can be adjusted to suit your needs and even when you build time flies just like in the real world. But sometimes when you start the game with a small inn trying to work your way to the top of the Hotel managing world and you usually get about 10 costomers a month, when you put the speed even on the fastest mode it takes a long time to wait till a customer arrives and when you are in fast mode you cant move around the hotel.

Generally this game is very good and it is worth buying but just dont expect it to be perfect!

+'s - It's a new style of game
You can fully interact with everything you see
You can build easilly
very interesting and addictive!
You can manage the hotel to exactly your own style
You can download patches and etra items off the internet

-'s Sometimes too slow
Camera angles dont give too good of a view

SOUND: 4/5

GRAPHICS: 4/5

GAMEPLAY: 5/5

OVERALL: 4/5

4.0 out of 5 stars Hotel Giant, The most realistic hotel management game money, 5 Oct 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Hotel Giant (Video Game)
Hotel Giant is all about one thing. Build. Design. Observe, and manage a hotel, (more hotels when you proceed). The rooms you custom build, from walls to windows, from telephone to televisions, (you can even choose if you want movies, videos games etc. on the TV), and from ceiling to cupboards. There are also swimming pools, game rooms, business rooms, restaurants, bars etc...... Which you can build in size and quality.
But wait! This is not JUST a hotel building game; it is a hotel MANAGEMENT game, which means you can:
Advertise the hotel image, packages (which you create), rooms and facilities for as long as you want, with as much money you want to put into the advertisement;
Borrow a loan from the bank to help you in financial situations, (there is even interest on it!);
Look at the market to see future customers who either will or will not choose your hotel for their stay and why;
View the statistics of your hotel, such as the total no' of rooms, the average occupancy, etc;
View the ranking of your hotel compared with other corporations;
View the revenue, profits, cash remaining and assets in clear graphs;
Look at your customers and their satisfaction and see how you could improve it;
And most importantly, completing your goals in the game.

This game takes it beyond construction to please the eye. It needs to be managed in a way to please the person as well, and this is why, for those who want a try at being a hotel manager, then look no further than this.
