I just got a Kobo mini for my birthday, and I'm very pleased.

The raison d'etre of the eReader is to read books, and it's perfect for my needs at that. The e-ink screen is very clear, high contrast so easily visible in direct sunlight (and fine reading by lamplight too). There is no backlight or screen glow - higher end models include this but they are larger and cost much more.

Set up was straightforward - the touch screen is responsive enough, and I signed in to the Kobo with my facebook account. Within a couple of minutes I'd found free books and downloaded Bram Stoker's Dracula and was ready to start reading. The Kobo store is easy enough to navigate, or you can buy epub books from pretty much any store in the world except amazon and copy them onto the Kobo from a computer using the included USB cable (which can also be used to charge the Kobo); this made it easy for me to get some eBooks from a Spanish online book store so I can practice my Spanish reading.

The reading experience is very good. The Kobo mini is extremely light and easy to hold with one hand. While reading, the interface is easy - tap the left third of the screen to go back a page, the right third of the screen to go forward a page, or the middle third of the screen to bring up the menu. I have big hands, and can tap to go on a page with the thumb of my right hand, making one-handed reading easy. By default, the font and page margins used are on the large side, so with such a small screen, almost certainly you'll want to change the font size (apparently there are 24 different sizes), line spacing and margins to fit as much on the screen as you can comfortably read. Fortunately this is easy to do, and sliders for adjusting these allow you to suit your preference exactly.

This is the cheapest E-Reader i have seen that is worth a look, the build is great and the screen is nice and clear.
If you want a good deal you can buy these from most WH Smith stores over the counter for £29.99!!!

I've had a kindle (keyboard) for years, and was quite happy with it. Then I got a load of Phillipa Gregory books for the wife and that was my kindle gone! after much deliberation I decided to chance £29 on one of these (why is the price so high here?) I was dubious that this would be large enough!
Well I have had mine for about a year now and its fine. Its a book reader plain and simple. because it was so cheap I take it to work and read it, its smallness does make it very portable. I have a small case for mine.
One review does mention that you need to register a credit card to purchase books, and another that he had trouble syncing to a computer. I never registered no card (I have never brought an e-book. if your web savvy there's plenty of books out there!!) I connect mine to computer and transfer books over. This way I think your limited to about 250mb storage, but that's fine, that's about six hundred books!! I think the first time I did this it downloaded a lot of updates so maybe you do need a computer and internet to get started
The text is not crystal clear, there are better e readers out there. but not at £29. There is no light, sometimes this would be a desirable feature. Its a five inch screen so you gotta do a lot more page turning (just a tap of the finger really) than you would with a six incher. I've not found this to be a problem.
I've not had any problems with mine and would recommend this product.

I am pleased with this purchase. The size makes it very convenient to hold and there is enough text on the screen to read a reasonable chunk. Page turning is easy and text is easy to read.

My husband and I can now read in bed our favourite books without fighting over the kindle. So I got a Kobo instead and we both use them and love them. So light and easy to take everywhere with us, especially when waiting for hospital appointments.

Nice little unit. Bought primarily to attach a GPS/vario to which, when combined with freeware XCSoar software, becomes a good quality, low cost flight computer for paragliding/gliding.

As an e-reader the e-ink display is nice and clear, and most of all is truly sunlight readable - unlike running Kindle/Ibooks/flight computer software on my iPhone/iPad. Like all e-ink displays it does suffer from slow screen updates and ghosting but the advantages of long battery and sunlight readability far outweigh this minor inconvenience. It was easy enough to buy books and to remove the DRM and convert my Kindle books over. The Kobo bookstore doesn't quite match Amazon's Kindle store but the range of books seems good none the less.

For those wishing to make the flight-computer adaptation, this is definitely the unit to get. While the soldering work inside to adapt it is difficult, the end product of a highly accurate vario/barometer/gps attached to the Kobo can be had for a total cost of less than £100 (compared to £600 or so for a Naviter/C-Pilot).

I bought this model for its size. It fits neatly into my back pocket.

The speed and responsiveness of the reader is very slow. Very often, I press something and it takes 5-10 seconds to respond. Text zooming is very bad. It only zooms in steps and does not allow customized zooming. If you zoom in, you then have to zoom out again to turn the page. In my experience, it is only useful for reading EPUB files. PDF files can be viewed but the size may not match the screen.

The display flicker is really disturbing. It is due to the slow display refresh.

You will need Adobe Digital Editions if you want to import your own books. The import process is not straight forward and will require restarting the reader before you see the titles.

The Wi-fi works as expected.

The only aspect that satisfies me is the size of the reader. Being a no-frills e-reader the battery has a long life per charge.
