Product Description

Aha! Alan Partridge, 'King of Chat' (or alternatively the chat show host from hell), manages to rub all of his guests' backs up in all six episodes from the first series. Finest comedy moments include the 'head shlapping' bald Brummies, the famous ABBA medley, 'Cheeky Monkey' and the French clowns. Steve Coogan is Partridge, Patrick Marber, David Schneider, Rebecca Front and Doon MacKichan are the regular guest stars, while the writing staff includes Coogan, Marber and Armando Iannucci.

The second three episodes of the classic comedy series starring Steve Coogan and his hugely talented team including co-writer Patrick Marber. Show 4 is set across the Channel where Partridge quickly puts paid to the entente cordiale with his anti-intellectualism and conceited bigotry. The funniest scene features the mime troupe 'cirques des clunes' which directly affronts the barely concealed conservatism of the host. In Show 5, Partridge takes on boxing promoter and gangster Terry Norton 'I imagine you know Spain quite well with your connections...just in case' to which Norton eventually responds 'Do you wanna get involved son...cos I'll get you involved'. A question time style debate where Coogan's alter-ego declares 'I will be impartial at all times...Pontius Partridge' is constantly interrupted by Marber's anarchic Lieutenant Colonel Kojak Slaphead III and his entourage. In the last episode Partridge is upstaged by two child Hollywood superstars, challenged by the presenters of a minority arts programme who are to replace his show and finally arrested by the police. Absolutely terrific entertainment which stands re-watching time and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars The original and best spoof chat show series 1 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
In short, Knowing Me Knowing You With Alan Partridge was to the 1990s what The Young Ones had been to the 80s and Fawlty Towers was to the 70s. Steve Coogan's character had originally begun life on BBC radio and Chris Morris' groundbreaking TV satire The Day Today. Partridge possesses every loathsome trait of the insufferable British chat show host rolled into one. The first video sees him outraged by a feminist punk band (in a scene reminiscent of The Sex Pistols appearance on Today); hypnotised into revealing embarrassing details concerning a motel in High Wycombe; challenging an ex office maintenance operative turned Hollywood superstar to repair a broken photocopier; and confronting the 'wacky' new host (recently divorced) of This Is Your Life by bribing his young son. Funniest moment of all - watch out for 'Montgomery'! A real classic and the next 3 episodes on Video 2 get even better.

"...something about the Titanic that people forget...there were over 1000 miles of uneventful, very pleasurable cruising before it hit the iceberg" (Alan Partridge)

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely hilarious and brilliant 20 Aug 2000
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
Along with The Day Today, this series is the funniest thing made in the last ten years. Steve Coogan is a massively underrated comic performer, and the way the script here mixes with his (and the other performers) talent for the ad-lib and amazing ability to deliver a line, is spellbinding, and incredibly funny. When Alan reveals by-the-by that he eats 'Kellogg's Common Sense' for breakfast, I nearly suffocated - it's just so perfect. And that describes the rest of this series. BY IT IF YOU LIKE TO LAUGH.
